About this deal

I've not heard the Oberon as that is a relatively new speakers. But I would expect them to carry on the general Dali characteristic sound.

The hits are huge as airborne vehicles slam into the road with terrifying weight and every bone-crunching punch sounds as though it has been delivered with super-human strength, but the details of twisting metal and the splattering blood aren’t steamrollered by the thuds.

Base surface area of a loudspeaker may become a determining factor when the space in your room or desk is limited.

First and foremost, with the Exposure the soundstage was if anything somewhat enlarged. It took on at least another foot of depth and width. I was quite surprised. Further, there was immediately more bass energy and slam, this being a predicted outcome when you compare it to a Class A tube amp. I agree that in some ways the bass sounds bigger, even if the spec says the Oberons go lower. But as I crank it up above 60hz, there's sometimes noise or distortion that isn't there with Oberon. Yes, the used zensors could be a bit over used but I don't think so. Definition and detail retrieval were very good but at this price, I wouldn’t say close to class-leading. As mentioned for a few dollars more you have the KEF and for a lot of dollars less (provided you can get your hands on them), you can get yourself some Magnepan. But the detail is still great and so is imaging, the question you need to ask is do you really need an electrostatic level of detail in trade for musicality? The Oberon has 5 classic bass reflex designs with a rear-opening port. Its claimed sensitivity is between 88 dB, 39 Hz and 26 kHz. According to the manufacturer, the crossing point is tuned to 2.4 kHz and the bass sport is tuned to 43 Hz. With adequate sensitivity and a nominal impedance of 6 ohms, it is not difficult for most amplifiers to drive the Oberon 5 speakers, the manufacturer recommends a power between 30W and 150W. Featuring a larger cabinet and twin bass woofer units, the Oberon 5 speakers are ideal for medium-large sized rooms. With a maximum power handling of 150 watts, this pair of DALI speakers make a great match for most AV receivers – making them ideal front speakers in a home cinema system.

MÚSICA

DALI‌ first came on my radar when I‌ heard a pair of their flagship Epicon stand-mounts (which are about eight grand a pair)‌ at a show. They were playing Anderson Paak’s “Heart Don’t Stand A Chance,” and If you’re familiar with that song, you know it’s a party jam that makes you want to dance. The Epicons, the serious audiophile speakers they are, had no problem playing fast and dynamic, bringing modern music to life.

The Klipsch RP-5000F is honestly a fantastic sounding floor speaker, especially given the price. This is also aided by its efficiency of course, which makes it really trivial to get great, loud sound without investing in a powerful amplifier. These speakers are perfect for house parties and movie nights, delivering tight, deep bass across every genre I tested them with. They also delivered a great deal of clarity and character in vocal music, able to draw details out of the mix that made listening sessions feel a lot more alive. My review sample came in the alluring White/Light oak finish with magnetic grilles draped in a grey Scandinavian fabric. They only measure 32.7 x 6.38 x 11.14 inches (830x162x 283mm), which is less than three feet tall and a little over a half foot wide. Oh and one other thing there are also the Oberon C class speakers which basically means wireless. The Oberon 5 we are reviewing today is not wireless and currently, the only one in this range is the Oberon 7 (C). Over the course of this year, we are going to try and cover the entire Dali catalog so bear with us as we work our way through. Specification Next, where are the speakers placed? How close is the Nearest Wall? Too close placement boosts the bass, but what you hear is the Mid/High becoming more recessed and muddy, which does not fall too far short of what you were describing. While the sub can create quite the rumble with the gain turned up high, it’s best to dial it down for a more subtle response. At sensible levels, it still delivers enough atmosphere and tone. If serious weight is what you need, then you can always upgrade to the Dali E-12F with its 30cm driver. Verdict

SOUND QUALITY

Dali points out that key elements of its fancier Epicon series informed the design of Oberon. Chief among them was the inclusion of the firm’s unique SMC (Soft Magnetic Compound) technology, which uses a patented compound in the pole piece of its bass drivers. The result, says Dali, is an “agile, linear woofer with a significant reduction of distortion from mechanical loss.” Other top-notch features include a Dali signature technology—its wood-fiber cones that provide added rigidity and thus lower distortion in bass frequencies. Cabinets are of a robust MDF construction. Fit and finish is very, very good. Filling out the Oberon lineup are two bookshelf models, plus an on-wall and a center channel for multichannel and movie enthusiasts. In the vast majority of cases we will not be able to install the cabinet doors to built-in laundry products as the fittings very rarely match up. We will try our best however if we are unable to do this we will still install connect to plumbing and put the appliance in situ.
