About this deal

Desperate Dan, Korky the Cat, Keyhole Kate and the Bamboo Town monkeys holding up the letter "Y" of "Dandy". Price 2/6 Korky the Cat - The feline who thought he was a human appeared on The Dandy's front cover virtually continuously for 47 years, from 1937 to 1984. Thanks to The Dandy and The Beano, Dundee, home of publisher DC Thomson, became known as the comic capital of Britain. The editor of The Dandy from its inception right up until 1982 was Albert Barnes, whose chin was said to the inspiration for Desperate Dan's chisel-jawed good looks. Bananaman - A parody of traditional superhero characters, this caped banana nut originally appeared in the comic Nutty and was a late addition to The Dandy, only appearing after it had gone online in 2012.

The Dandy Annual is the current name of the book that has been published by D.C. Thomson every year since 1938, to tie in with the children's comic The Dandy. As of 2020 there have been eighty-three editions, with another ( The Dandy Annual 2021) due. The annuals are traditionally published in August, in time for Christmas, and since 1965 they have had the date of the following year on the cover. Before then no date was given.Korky the Cat is operating all the other then-current Dandy characters (who are all portrayed as string puppets). Despite the comic's relaunch as Dandy Xtreme in 2007, the annual was still known as The Dandy Annual. This is likely because the annuals of the time were mostly made up of Dandy Comix, due to the topical nature of the magazine's Xtreme content.
