there is one moment with Grey that nearly broke me. The way I saw it in my head, the way it came to life – nope, can’t talk about it because I’ll get all caught up in the feels and then I’m just going to have to re-read the book again.😥😓😔 i instantly liked him, he is so strong, both physically and mentally. physically because he lost a foot when he was 13 and now has to live with crutches while also constantly working in his father's forge. mentally because he endures both his father's alcohol and gambling addiction and the feeling of being a burden to everyone because of his inability. also, he is genuinely a very nice man. Content Warning: Animal death, ableism, child abuse, death, rape, violence, kidnapping, death of a parent Our third POV character is Callyn and like all Brigid’s leading women, she’s strong and feisty and we love her too. She’s Jax’s best friend and these two would do anything for each other.

Instead we get two romances, one that I didn’t see coming and is by no means settled by the end of the book and the other that stopped my heart in my chest with its pure, heartbreaking honesty and driving emotions. WOW I feel like there's a reason Brigid released her book in pride month because 😃😃 we have to start with the romance. At first, I was not at all sure how the romance would play out. Would we get a best friends to lovers romance between Cal and Jax, a love story between Cal and Tycho? From the moment that the characters first get involved with the rebellion, I was worried that everything else about the book would feel similarly convenient and unfortunately, I was right. but no joke, I had this feeling when my favorite series gets a spin-off series, that i feel like it will ruin the first series for me(even though i die to have more book from that world again) so naturally, I was kind of scared that case will happen here.

You don't necessarily need to read the cursebreaker trilogy before this, but I would highly recommend it!! I loved the trilogy (seriously its so good, give it a shot) and seeing them here again made me fall in love with them even more. Jax assumes the traitor “Lady Karyl” is a fake name when telling Tycho about her. So why does he not mention her one distinctive characteristic, heterochromia, that would help identify her despite any assumed name?
