About this deal

Slope, Curved 2 x 1 Inverted in Dark Orange (6339914 | 24201) introduced ín 2021, in two other sets The subject of today is the Volkswagen T2 Camper Van, the successor of the T1. To make things complicated: The entire series of Camper Vans is called Typ 2. The T1 is the first model in this series, and started production in March 1950, and the 2nd (T2) generation followed in 1967. The T2 is best known as the Love Bug, being used a lot by hippies (and other cultures) to travel from music festival to music festival, and as the perfect van to transport your surfboard to the beach. For some reason, I have always loved the looks of this van. I don't know what it is, but it just looks right. To be clear: I love the looks. No way I'm ever traveling in it. Most people would find the van 'cozy'. For me, that just means cramped. I'm purely going by looks. So as I said: I really want to love this set. The Set Whether you’re reliving past adventures, planning future travels or simply want to celebrate your passion for camper vans, you’ll love this LEGO® Volkswagen T2 Camper Van (10279) model building project. Take your time building the camper van model then explore its detailed interior before placing it on display to remind you that there’s a world of adventure just around the corner. Wedge 2 x 1 x 2/3 with Stud Notch Right in Medium Azure (6296901 | 29119), introduced ín 2020, in three other sets Designed for adult LEGO builders and camper van fans, this model offers a rewarding building project and is ideal if you’re looking for the best gifts and collectibles for VW camper fans. The roof can also be removed, providing an impressive view of the interior. Outstanding detail continues inside the living quarters, greatly improving upon the cab which appears quite bland by comparison. One obvious problem does return though as another bright blue piece remains exposed. Such issues are disappointing because these elements could be swapped with more appropriate colours, or concealed.

the inclusion of the surfboard feels a bit lazy, especially since one was already included in the 10252 Beetle; Volkswagen T2 Camper Van succeeds the classic T1 design, exploiting modern elements and construction techniques which have been developed since 2011. The resultant model looks marvellous, benefiting particularly from the enhanced selection of curved slopes and integrating substantially more interesting functions. Box and Contents If you manage to get through the entire build though, you’re left with a stunning vehicle – albeit one you’re probably going to be scared to touch, for fear it might just crumble in your hands. Suffice to say, it’s much more eye-catching than the T1 Camper Van, in my opinion anyway, and the additional detail in the interior really adds a wow factor. Play or display?Discover a host of features and accessories in the Volkswagen van model, including the textile curtains, textile pop-up tent, surfboard and 2 folding chairs. Slope, Curved 2 x 4 x 1 1/3 with 4 Recessed Studs in Medium Azure (6345200 | 6081), introduced in 2021 in Friends 41681 Forest Camper Van and Sailboat which also includes a sort of hippie bus Once finished, 10279 Volkswagen T2 Camper Van is a very impressive-looking model that captures the unmistakable and iconic aesthetic of a VW Camper Van almost faultlessly. Fans of the VW brand will no doubt love the authenticity and levels of accuracy this set offers. However, fans of LEGO for Adults vehicles in general may be quite disappointed with the build experience. It’s also one of the most temperamental and fragile LEGO vehicles you are ever likely to build. The exterior features include opening driver and passenger doors, a sliding side door (operated by a small button underneath the chassis) and a rear door and small boot. They look good, but feel very flimsy, and attaching them isn’t that enjoyable either. Bits regularly fall off with the slightest of touches, which is often more frustrating than fun. Volkswagen T1 Camper Van incorporated an ingenious pop-up roof section, recreating an important feature from the famous van. The new model includes a similar function as lifting the roof panel reveals an orange fabric component underneath. Several variants of the pop-up roof were produced in reality and this example seems accordingly realistic, although there is a noticeable gap between the roof and the fabric towards the front.

Fortunately, the functionality suffers from no such problems as every door opens smoothly for viewing inside. Generous space is available above the engine bay, which could accommodate various accessories. However, this is required for the bed transformation instead, hence I think the aforementioned pillows could have been positioned here for storage. This is a tough one. As I said, I really want to love this set, but it is making it hard to do that.Studs are remarkably uncommon throughout this model, hence the inclusion of twelve visible studs across the reverse appears unusual. Nevertheless, I think this design looks brilliant and the shaping here closely resembles the T2 Camper Van, particularly around both flanks where decorated cooling vents are included. Despite an unfortunate printing error on my model, they achieve pleasing accuracy.
