About this deal

The lasting value of a recorded masterpiece lies not only in the notion of reaching and grasping the music itself, but in using it as a doorway to other pathways. Kind of Blue, it can be argued, earns its accolades less for its continuing sales or critical popularity, and more for its long-serving role as the portal for so many who come to jazz for the first time. Outstanding sound, which I can really appreciate with my headphones on. This will be played much more than my MoFi 45rpm version though flip between the two when feeling nerdy. Kind of Blue is more than Miles Davis’s most enduring recording, it’s a testament to Miles’ experimental approach, drastically simplifying modern jazz by returning to melody unlike the chord complexity more often heard at the time.

Really happy with this UHQR (number 7700) and surprised it is clearly better than both my Classic 33 and 45! Just sounds beautiful and alive! Well done Chad and Co.! This disc is amazing, even on my modest system. I've mostly listened to Kind of Blue on CD for many years. Playing this LP was like listening to it for the first time. Blank records and antiskate are probably the last thing I wanna get in a discussion about with you when there are so many fun and agreeable topics!I have a 60's stereo press, MOV's mono press, the 45th anniversary box, MoFi's 45 RPM. This absolutely destroys them all. DESTROYS THEM. Part of this is no doubt the vinyl formulation but more of it I think is the Finebilt handpress, which has a longer press time and which has had the chassis shaking hydraulics removed and placed on its own isolated platform. Especially if this record is seared into your brain from decades of exposure, you’ll immediately hear the improved focus, which does not come at the expense of the recording’s famous lush, rich and full warm instrumental sound and it’s upper frequency transient precision and clarity in front of the somewhat wet space. Again, you did no work for vinyl production. None. You lie by implication that you have knowledge about this." It's the best selling jazz album ever, one of the most influential too, arguably the one that produced a shift from riffing on chord based tunes to modal excursions that gave musicians newfound improvisational freedom. Cynics and the selfish will react to yet another Kind of Blue reissue by claiming that "everyone" already owns a copy but of course that's not true. And no one owns a 200 gram UHQR Clarity vinyl copy pressed one at a time on a manual Finebuilt press. Would become an issue eventually. Wear on the mothers or stampers will depend on how many copies are made from them. I don't know how many copies Classic pressed of the 33 KoB across 15 years and all of their vinyl formulations, but I'd believe it if you said the AP 25,000 exceeds it.

Listening to my UHQR Kind of Blue for the third time since I got it! Man I just have to thank you for this, deathly silent and perfect mastering. Keep doing what you’re doing Chad! Keeping the vinyl dream alive! I have the Classic Records version which I thought was a great pressing, this AP UHQR version blows it out of the water! The clarity is stunning! Wide soundstage and deep imaging! Most of the static sound at the beginning of the Classic version is absent. The only glaring omission by AP are pics of bassist, Paul Chambers, and drummer, the recently deceased Jimmy Cobb (May 2020), the last remaining member of the 1st great Miles Davis septet (though he sat in only for FF, Wynton Kelly is also missing). Not sure how you guys missed that one, but Paul, Jimmy, & Wynton, we appreciate your contributions to make this arguably the best jazz album!All-in-all this edition of Kind of Blue meets the highest audiophile standards and offers the truest sound for the most enjoyment. When we're setting up antiskate, we assume we know how hard the vinyl is pulling on the diamond. And it's probably a very reasonable assumption. Using a blank record is an attempt to get around that assumption, but it does not properly account for the diamond geometry. I wanted the pressing to be perfection like the first two UHQR’s, but unfortunately perfection isn’t always attainable, hence the four stars. I can’t wait to see what the next UHQR title will be, but count me in. Recorded at Columbia 30th Street Studio, New York City on March 2, 1959 (A1 to B2) and April 22, 1959 (C1 & D1)
