Two of the more cost effective models within the Oral-B range of electric toothbrushes, these two are among the most popular models available on the market today and either serve the vast majority of users very well. However, here artificial intelligence plays a crucial role, since the higher models, the Oral-B Genius X and 10000, do not need to use the phone to locate themselves, something that is necessary for the 8000 and 9000 series. Autonomy You can get a perfectly functional brush for a lot less but still gain many of the benefits, notably the Pro 2 2000
The battery is built-in and is not user replaceable unless you want to invalidate your warranty and are confident with electronics and soldering. The Genius X does command a premium for this technological upgrade and you get a little less in the box. The app is very comprehensive with lots of options, too many to go through completely in this review. It gives you all you need though to not only effectively brush your teeth, but to log the cleans and motivate you.On the subject of cleaning modes, the Genius 9000 has an extra brushing mode known as ‘Tongue Cleaning’ mode. This is a cycle that lasts for 20 seconds with 7300 oscillations and 30,000 pulsations and designed for as the name suggests, cleaning the tongue. So, both models come with a place to store brush heads, but the compartment with the 9000 is better than the stand offered with the Smart 6.
cleaning modes– With a variety of cleaning modes, this brush has almost all users covered and is particularly beneficial if the brush handle is shared by more than 1 user where each user has different needs or preferences. Whilst most users will require the standard daily clean mode, with the 8000 gives the option for change and optimised modes to be used in different scenarios. The base of the brush is sealed, but has a recess into which the prong on the charging stand fits to charge the brush.
Common Uses
SmartRing– It lights up one of 12 colours, the choice is yours. It is a small but nice touch that just makes the brush feel more personal. It is this that illuminates as 30 second intervals too and changes red as part of the pressure sensor configuration. The Oral-B Pro Genius X, Genius 9000 and Genius 1000 offer up to six different brushing modes: Daily Clean, Professional Clean, Sensitive, Whitening, Gum Care and Tongue Clean.

Whilst the Genius is the premium brush it offers inferior battery life. Our testing has confirmed that the 9000 offers 12 days of usage time compared to the 18 days on the Smart 6.
Ultimately, all of the brushes will provide a very good clean to the teeth and gums if used correctly. If you look at the design of the brushes, on the bottom of the head they have a small luminous ring. You’ve seen? You can customize this light ring with up to 12 different colors. The dual handle version comes with 2 handles, but it does not come with 2 travel cases or charging stands. You do get an additional brush head (1 x CrossAction) included in the box. Putting this to shame is the 9000’s travel case which is heavier, bulkier but much more premium to look at and touch. It also has the ability to charge the brush in the case, by connecting the provided charging cable. If this is not enough, a USB cable can be connected to the case and charge a device like a smartphone. As you move up the Oral-B range, the brushes become more expensive, but they do come with additional features and accessories. We regard these as “nice-to-have” rather than essential.
A fully sealed brush it can be used in the shower, rinsed off under a tap etc without issue. Don’t go taking the brush for a swim, but it is designed to resist water.
