About this deal

The synopsis reads: “ Thrown is a gloriously big-hearted novel about four women who attend their local community centre pottery class. The women all live on the same estate; a place where circumstances have led most to live guarded, private lives. At the heart of the estate sits a dilapidated community centre, which is no longer the cherished and hopeful place it once was. The new pottery class could be a fresh start for the centreand the students. And, as the clay is hesitantly moulded, so the lives of four women at the heart of this wonderful story begin to be revealed." Don’t get me started. I’ve been in London longer than I lived up north but on my dad’s side I come from generations and generations of farmers and then it’s screeched to a halt with us five – we’re lawyers and artists and NHS workers. I think a bit of that might come through in my next book. The dream is a smallholding one day – I’ve got a horse now, Nelly, so I’m getting there. She’s really my escape. Jameela: All she's ever done is work hard, and try her best. Why won't life give her the one thing she really wants? This is at a macro level. This lady has really changed her life. Our kids see us as just mum, or dad, as a parent, that's all you are. They don't think of you as a person, who's had adventures, and who gets things wrong, and who doesn't know the answer. The celebrity panellists keen to share their love of reading include Rob Delaney, Geri Halliwell-Horner, Nish Kumar, Sandi Toksvig, Richard Armitage, Ellie Taylor, Ade Edmondson, Kerry Godliman, Bill Paterson, Annie Macmanus, Chris McCausland, Alex Jones, Ben Miller, Andi Osho, Ed Byrne, Suzi Ruffell, Omari Douglas, Angela Barnes, Adam Kay, Anita Rani, Ahir Shah, Laura Smyth, Jo Brand and Miles Jupp.

Each week Sara will open the door to four new famous guests, who will bring along their all-time favourite book and share what it means to them. Atticus, in fact, was going to be the title of the book. He's a man of profound ability, both as a person in society, a lawyer, which matters to me, and as a father. BBC Arts has announced that Between The Covers is returning to BBC Two for a fifth series in November 2022 with Sara Cox hosting. Emma Cahusac, Commissioner for BBC Arts, says: “The first series of Between The Covers sparked a national conversation about books, so I’m delighted it’s returning with another fantastic line up. Continuing BBC Arts’ commitment to books programmes, the series features a broad selection of genres and styles, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy. I look forward to working my way through the reading list, and joining in the conversation on social media during each episode.” The story was getting increasingly ridiculous and was really resembling a soap opera more than a well-written novel, so that's why I've decided to finish off here. I won't leave a star review, because it doesn't seem right if I haven't even read to the end.Plus of course our guests bring in their most treasured tome to wax lyrical about - so get ready for your teetering TBR [To Be Read] pile to be topped with more brilliant books.” It is light, pure escapism and a comforting, gentle story but although there IS humour, it isn't what I would call laugh out loud! The line-up of celebrity panellists keen to share their love of reading includes Emilia Fox, David Harewood, Greg James, Sarah Kendall, Prue Leith, Dane Baptiste, Evanna Lynch, Ben Miller, Rob Rinder, Lou Sanders, Sharleen Spiteri, Iain Stirling and Fleur East.

Between The Covers (6 x 30’) was commissioned by Emma Cahusac, Commissioner for BBC Arts. Created and produced by Cactus TV, Exec Produced by Amanda Ross with Series Producer Pollyanne Conway. It’s called Metronome. It’s quite different to what I go for but I really loved it. I thought it was by a woman because the female protagonist is so well written, but it’s by Tom Watson, an annoyingly young man. I loved Bonnie Garmus’s Lessons in Chemistry as well. Sara tells us: "We loved the first series and we were definitely keen to do more — let’s face it, we’re never going to run out of books! So yeah, when we got the call that it was happening again, I was really chuffed. I was also really chuffed that one of the big hitters from last year, I’d already read, so that was a bonus — because obviously there’s quite a lot of reading to do with the 12 books!"

I grew up half on my dad’s farm but half on a little council estate nearby. I liked the cosiness and wanted to reflect that. I could also picture the layout in my mind – the community centre, the little doctors…
