About this deal

And in the meantime, we can jet all around the world in our imagination while we play Trekking the World!

Overall, Trekking the World is a game the whole family can enjoy playing together. The score pad is helpful to record your points in each area. Then there are the Destinations themselves. The row of Destination cards clearly show which types of cards are needed to claim them. And players can pay attention to which Trek cards their opponents are grabbing along the way — giving them an idea of which Destination they’re vying for. So players will need to make choices as to which Destinations are in their best interest to compete for and which are better left alone. Depending on your outlook, this could be the best-timed release or the worst-timed release, seeing as world travel is currently restricted due to a global pandemic. To me, it’s a pleasant reminder of what was and, hopefully, will be again soon. Trekking the World is a 2-5 player game that takes about 1 hour to play. The gameplay is centered around route planning and set collection. Gameplay Overview: Trekking the World is an easy to learn family board game where players traverse the continents, visit popular destinations, and collect souvenirs in a race to score the most points. Each player chooses a Trekker and places them on one of the airport locations to begin. They also get a Suitcase sheet that matches their Trekker’s color. Lastly, the Trek cards are shuffled and each player is dealt 3 cards to form their starting hand. The rest of the Trek cards are placed next to the board in a draw pile and 4 are placed face-up.Trekking the World can serve a few purposes in a collection. If traveling is one of your hobbies or interests, you will probably get even more enjoyment out of the location descriptions and amazing art. Reminiscing over past trips can add to the overall experience. Those conversations will come about naturally through the gameplay. The Destination cards then all shift to the right and a new Destination card is revealed. Discard cards matching the symbols on a Destination card to Tour (claim) it. I’m Touring the Taj Mahal. Trekking the World is the latest board game published by Underdog Games. It delivers a lot of the familiar game play from Trekking the National Parks while adding a few new elements we really enjoy. Explore the world (and get the most points along the way)! Every game plays out differently because of how the Souvenir cubes get disbursed and which Journey cards are in play.

If there is a cube at the location you finish at, you may take it an place it on your suitcase. If you at any time collect the most souvenirs, or are the first one to reach the star of a color of souvenirs. You can claim the most souvenirs tile of that color. This also means, if another player has the yellow souvenirs tile with three cubes, but you collect four cubes and have now the most yellow souvenirs, you claim the tile from the other player. The souvenirs tiles give you more points at the end of the game. If you collect the last souvenir in a region, you may also take the region bonus token. These tokens will also provide you with bonus points at the end of the game. And of course, it’s a fantastic way to let our minds wander to lands we want to travel to once we’re able to travel again. Whereas, in 5-player games, there’s more opportunity to sweep things out from under other players just before they do — or have that happen to you. So it will definitely feel like a race to grab things while you can.

Since the last 2 Destinations in the row also grant extra Victory Point tokens when claimed, players will also want to keep an eye on those cards in particular. Or they can try to time it so that a Destination card that comes up later will make its way to those end spots at the right time for them to grab on their turn. If there is a Souvenir cube on the location they finish on, they take the cube and add it to their Suitcase (in the left-most space for that color). If after placing the cube in their suitcase, they have at least 2 of that color and have more of that color than any other player, they claim the Most Souvenir tile for that souvenir. After a game or two, the movement aspect of Trekking the World becomes more manageable, though younger players might still struggle. Some players may even enjoy jostling each other for position, playing the game more like a defensive battle than a casual tour. Lighting the Globe Collecting enough Souvenir cubes of any one color can earn you the matching Most Souvenirs tile, which is worth Victory Points.

The end of the game is triggered when five of the six region tokens are claimed, or when a player tours their fifth card. For the final scoring you add all the points together from the souvenir tiles, the region bonus tokens, victory point tokens, destination cards and the souvenir sets you’ve collected in your suitcase. One set of souvenirs is one complete row from up to down and the points given for that set stands below the souvenirs. The player with the most victory points is the winner!Once five region bonuses have been taken from the board or one player has toured 5 locations, the game ends immediately, and scores are tallied. The highest score wins. Journey Cards provide additional actions you can take on your turn. Game Experience:

To win, prove you’re the most experienced traveler by moving around the map and scoring Victory Points (VP).Take a Tour: If the player’s Trekker is at a location that matches one of the face-up Destination cards, they may discard cards matching the symbols/colors of that Destination card to claim it. If the Destination card is one of the two farthest to the right, it’s a Must-See destination and the player also claims a Victory Point token (3 point or 5 point) adjacent to that Destination card. We’ve had to cancel two big vacations we’d been looking forward to for a long time. One of those would have been this week. We’re totally bummed that we couldn’t be seeing new sights in Asia right now.
