This treatment works for those who show mild to moderate signs of ageing, are under 65 years old, want a short recovery time, and are okay with having multiple treatments to see results. First, I have fine lines around my eyes.The outer ‘crow’s feet’ lines don’t bother me. But the crêpey skin below my eyes does. Combined with slightly darker bluish-purple shadows there, I can look over-tired, or just plain ill. I’d like to improve that.
Dr Komal used the Tria laser before a shift with patients instead of before bed for the first time since she had to fit her treatment in around her important job. Her first time using the laser was slightly uncomfortable but not painful (one to two on the pain scale out of ten). A journal article in Dermatologic Therapy notes that “nonablative skin rejuvenation is a relatively new concept in facial rejuvenation, which aims to induce dermal remodel[l]ing without visible epidermal disruption.” In laymen’s terms that means that ablative lasers are effective but cause visible outward damage to the skin which needs to heal before the beneficial effects are visible. The wrinkles round my eyes have always really bothered me and had got progressively worse to the point that no amount of foundation was ever going to cover them. Along the same lines as above, the collagen production triggered by using your ADL also fades any skin oxidation or hyperpigmentation, which means sun damage and brown spots start to fade. I started on the first setting, gently moving the laser across my skin in sections, starting on my left cheek then my right, followed by my forehead and chin. A beep tells you exactly when to move on to the next zone. In her video, she explains she’s been using the lowest setting and now she’s ramped up to the medium level of the laser (of the three levels available). She notes that the strength of the laser increases at each level as does the time of use. She says she enjoys the use of the laser even though there is a little discomfort when using it. The laser makes buzzing noises to let you know when to move to the next area. And at the very end it makes a ‘fanfare’ serious of beepy-buzzes. By treating your skin with a non-ablative fractional laser, your skin will look better, have more collagen, and be more radiant; however, any non-ablative fractional laser treatments are not permanent in that you have to keep using the laser to see the results. It's not a one-and-done one-stop-shop treatment. You have to incorporate the laser into your regular beauty routine to continue to see results (as in you’ll want to boost your skin with your Tria Age-Defying Laser a couple of times per year). Once you’ve chosen your setting, you simply move the laser over your skin. You divide your face up into four different zones – the two cheeks, your forehead, and the lower face. Then you work on each zone in turn. According to an article in the Journal of Lasers in Medical Sciences , non-ablative lasers “are less destructive than ablative lasers and stiffen the skin by stimulating collagen production in the dermis; the epidermis is protected through skin cooling.” It continues, “The epidermis remains cool when using this laser because the waves penetrate the dermis layer. The heat generated in the dermis coagulates the collagen and then begins the wound healing process. As a result, new collagen synthesis is performed on the substrate of the skin and extracellular matrix.” In other words, collagen creates a “wound healing” effect, which means bye-bye discolouration and scarring.
The facial laser has three different levels. I’ve been using it on the lowest setting. A little indicator lights up dots to show which level you have the laser set to. Second, I’m fair-skinned with a very uneven skin tone.It’s a mix of translucent, rosy and yellowy-golden patches. And it changes from day to day. I also have small, red broken veins and larger diffuse red patches. I’d love to fix this so I can skip the daily application of foundation. I used a cooling night cream and by the morning any redness had subsided and my skin looked more alive than it usually did.
