About this deal

This is the installation method used for almost all sapphire and mineral glass, both flat and domed. There is a gasket between the outside edge of the crystal and inside edge of the case. The gasket is usually going to be made from a hard nylon. The gasket will be either “L” shaped or “I” shaped and should be always be replaced for top class work. This 15 piece assortment comes with Bergeon 5499-Q (36.5 x 36 mm), 5499-P (35.5 x 35 mm), 5499-A (34.5 x 34 mm), 5499-B (33.5 x 33 mm), 5499-C (32.5 x 32 mm), 5499-D (31.5 x 31 mm), 5499-E (30.5 x 30 mm), 5499-F (29.5 x 29 mm), 5499-G (28.5 x 28 mm), 5499-H (27.5 x 27 mm), 5499-J (26.5 x 26 mm), 5499-K (25.5 x 25 mm), 5499-L (24.5 x 24 mm), 5499-M (23.5 x 23 mm), and 5499-N (22.5 x 22 mm). Here is what I sketched in my lunch hour (including a doodle I did whilst on a very boring conference call) on Friday: Hold case over crystal, press foot pedal to compress the crystal, slip case over the crystal, release foot pedal - you are done: Reversible Thread-On Delrin Dies for fitting crystals with tension ring and 1 universal die. Die diameters: 15 mm, 16 x 17 mm, 18 x 19 mm, 20 x 21 mm, 22 x 23 mm, 24 x 25 mm, 26 x 27 mm, 28 x 29 mm, 30 x 31 mm, 32 x 33 mm, 34 x 35 mm, 36 x 37 mm, 38 x 39 mm, 40 x 41 mm, and a 45 mm universal die. All Horotec thread-on dies will work with the Bergeon 5500 Press.

Besides the common sizes above there are some specialty brand specific crystals available from Sternkreuz. Your can find them here.Comes in a set of 9 bakelite lower stake dies. Assortment includes Bergeon 5500-01 (40 mm), 5500-02 (36 mm), 5500-03 (32 mm), 5500-04 (28 mm), 5500-05 (24 mm), 5500-06 (20 mm), 5500-07 (16 mm), 5500-08 (14 mm), and 5500-09 (12 mm). This type of installation requires a press that pushes down on the new crystal from the top, in a uniform way over the entire surface of the crystal. The pusher/die on the press and the watch case need to be parallel, otherwise the glass will become crooked, and you risk breaking the crystal.

The Set includes: 2 Reversible Delrin Dies for fitting watch bezels (40 x 45 mm and 46 x 50 mm); inner side wall depth is 4mm. The force applied by the press both pushes the crystal down as well as tries to reduce the diameter, or roll the skirt under. This helps get the crystal skirt started in the opening in the case. This 8 piece assortment comes with Bergeon 5499-A (34.5 x 34 mm), 5499-B (33.5 x 33 mm), 5499-C (32.5 x 32 mm), 5499-D (31.5 x 31 mm), 5499-E (30.5 x 30 mm), 5499-F (29.5 x 29 mm), 5499-G (28.5 x 28 mm), and 5499-H (27.5 x 27 mm). Reversible Thread-On Delrin Dies for fitting watch bezels and 1 universal die. Die diameters: 25 x 26 mm, 27 x 28 mm, 29 x 30 mm, 31 x 32 mm, 33 x 33.5 mm, 34 x 34.5 mm, 35 x 35.5 mm, 36 x 36.5 mm, 37 x 37.5 mm, 38 x 38.5 mm, and a 45 mm universal die. All Horotec thread-on dies will work with the Bergeon 5500 Press. This is my preferred method for all compression fit crystals. Unfortunately, it is not possible for front loaders and you will still need to use the Crystal Lift style tool. Also l1 is the cutout for the stem/crown, was thinking of making it U shaped rather than square, but would model it as a square and simply fillet the corners to make it a U shape. Once again, Bergeon has listened to the needs of the watch repair industry servicing luxury watches. Bergeon already has the largest selection of screw-on dies, what was needed from Bergeon a truly precision straight screw press to go with the dies Bergeon makes. Well, it's here now Swiss Made with Anodized aluminum frame with non-slip base that can be bolted down if desired. Truly Linear Spindle with Anti-rotation, allow for a straight traveling path while controlling precisely the distance the dies moves downward. Compatible with the complete range of Bergeon and Bergeon type screw-on dies. Supplied with die holder height 21 mm, optional die holders in heights 5 mm and 28 mm are available.

These Bergeon tapered wall dies are reversible (each piece has two different sizes, one on each side). Comes in a set of 13 pieces. For fitting certain crystal types, including tension rings. NOTE: Use extreme care in pressure fitting gold watches using a watch press because they are easily bent out of shape and damaged. A watch press can emit enormous pressure on a small surface so work carefully on any watch because the damage of bending a watch case or watch bezel is many times un-repairable. Five Types of press on crystals that we cover are: This allows the tightening tool to be set onto the base and tighten, keeping the tool about a 1/16 of on inch off the bottom edge of the crystal. Reversible Thread-On Delrin Dies for fitting crystals with tension ring. Die diameters: 42 x 45 mm, 47 x 50 mm, 52 x 55 mm, 57 x 60 mm, and 62 x 65 mm. Tapered wall reversible dies with inner side wall depth of 1.5mm. All Horotec thread-on dies will work with the Bergeon 5500 Press. Those who read this thread owe gratitude to Al for his taking the time to share his knowledge and expertise. Al's post covered the topic accurately and also corrected misinformation from some earlier posts. Once its been tightened down, about 0.2-0.3 mm, the crystal is set into the case bezel and released. Once I get to grips with it, I'll post the freeCAD design on thingiverse and you can also PM me for it from here 🙂 I wasn't really aware of "front loaders", and in those cases, a crystal lift is, of course, a must. I'll get me one those for this watch and for future needs. Would you know if a crystal lift also can be just for acrylic crystals with a tension ring, or is it a bad idea? Having seen a few YouTube videos on how to use a crystal lift, it seems a very nifty tool!

The second most common problems is trying to use a watch crystal lift tool on a crystal with only a slight dome. For this crystal, I believe a crystal lift (which I don’t have) is the right tool? I do have a crystal press but I don’t dare to use it on this crystal. My guess is that a crystal lift is used for acrylic crystals without a tension ring and that a crystal press is used for acrylic crystals with a tension ring and for crystals in mineral glass and sapphire? Anyway, I’m just guessing here and really don’t know so I’d really appreciate some facts about "Crystal Press vs. Crystal Lift". This is my first question on WatchRepairTalk and I’d like to know when to use a crystal lift and when to use a crystal press? In some instances, a specific type of lift or wrench can be used to remove these tension ring crystals - usually these are brand specific tools, and are not a "one size fits all" that a typical crystal lift would be. h3 = 5mm (will only need this outer dimension also to be h3 if I decide to keep the 'shoulders' at the top of the model, thinking I may just skip the outer shoulders and have the top and bottom linked by an ark without the shoulders... I will need to think about this....any ideas??? My initial thinking is that the shoulders may flex a little as you push the movement in and grip the movement better, but not sure how realistic this idea is?) - see version 1 and version 2 below. Five Horotec Jumbo Size Reversible Thread-On Delrin Dies for fitting watch bezels. Die diameters: 40 x 45 mm, 46 x 50 mm, 52 x 55 mm, 57 x 60 mm, and 62 x 65 mm. All Horotec thread-on dies will work with the Bergeon 5500 Press. This set contains 4 jumbo size reversible delrin thread-on dies for fitting flat mineral crystals. Die diameters: 47 x 50 mm, 52 x 55 mm, 57 x 60 mm, and 62 x 65 mm. All Horotec thread-on dies will work with the Bergeon 5500 Press.
