About this deal

Over the years, chipmakers migrated to larger wafer sizes. By moving to larger wafer sizes, vendors produced 2.2X the number of dies per wafer, enabling them to reduce their manufacturing costs. The industry is expected to add more than 220,000 wpm in new 200mm capacity in 2021. In total, 200mm fab capacity is expected to reach 6.4 million wpm, according to SEMI. 200mm fab capacity includes discretes, epi, LEDs, MEMS, and semiconductors. For stability, the lens has an optical image stabilizer to reduce camera shake. The autofocus system is also advanced and has a 240fps sensor drive which means that autofocusing is extremely fast. Why 200mm Lenses Are Essential Corner sharpness, however, falls somewhat short of expectations at the wide end and midrange. Depending on how you compose your shots this may be less of an issue, but the inconsistency is disappointing for an L lens.

The broad zoom ring occupies most of the barrel, meaning it falls naturally to hand during shooting. One noteworthy positive is the impressive close-up capability. This is handy if you want to avoid disturbing skittish subjects. I see no signs of false color in lab tests or real-world samples. It effectively suppresses both lateral chromatic aberration (CA), which is often visible as purple fringing around tree branches or power lines that fall within the plane of focus, and longitudinal type (LoCA), which shows up as false purple and green color in specular highlights and transitional areas away from the plane of focus.
