About this deal

My favorites are the ones that dissect the trees where the mice make their homes. I could spend hours staring at all the little rooms the mice have carved out of the tree, complete with tiny furnishings, winding staircases, and halls. The Four-Year-Old, on the other hand, would prefer to spend those hours staring at the illustration of the room at the top of the Secret Staircase, with its spider webs, columns, detailed tapestries, mice statues, and especially the little suit of mouse armor standing guard on the side.

Jill immersed herself in the world she created. She was absorbed in the smallest details of everything from the blossom on a tree to the cogs of a machine. Her study and kitchen were both piled high with dried flowers, shells, nuts, feathers – anything and everything she could collect and use to inspire the Brambly Hedge world. A good cook, she made sure that every recipe for the wonderful food enjoyed by the mice at picnics and feasts could actually be made from foraged ingredients. She adopted the same approach to the mechanical implements she created within Brambly Hedge; all the machinery in the mouse mill and dairy had been trialled by Jill in miniature working models. The Brambly Hedge Complete Collection (1999; later reprints & new editions) — 1 slipcased volume (8.9x11.5in) Jill Barklem (1951-November 15, 2017) was a British writer and illustrator of children's books. Her most famous work is the Brambly Hedge series. Barklem first conceived the stories in the 1970s, as she commuted from her Epping home into St Martin’s School of Art on the London underground. “I did not have a very clear idea of my future but assumed I would earn my living by illustrating other people’s books. I certainly never imagined that one day I would write my own,” Barklem said. There is a wonderful community of mice that live in a hedgerow called Brambly Hedge. Here life is peaceful and busy. They spend the spring and summer months collecting nuts, berries, and various fruits and flora for deliciously homemade jams and baked goods. Everything is kept in the Store Stump, an enormous tree stump that has many rooms for everything a mouse might need.

This book is hella wholesome and cute. I had a blast reading it. It amused me how the mice are constantly finding reasons to party, and it was just adorbs how excitedly the mice band together to celebrate, have fun and help each other. The best thing about this book is definitely the beautiful art by Barklem. The illustrations are so intricate, detailed, cute and I could spend hours looking at them. I love the way she drew her characters, their outfits and their homes in the trees. The illustrations are beautiful, detailed and heart warming and the story lines sweet, imaginative and fanciful. There are ongoing themes of friendship, community spirit and sharing throughout the whole timeless collection. The Mice of Brambly Hedge Celebrate (1998) is a joint publication version of Winter Story and Secret Staircase. Brambly Hedge is a series of illustrated children's books by Jill Barklem, recounting the adventures of a community of mice who live together in the tranquil surroundings of the English countryside. The writer described Brambly Hedge as a loving and caring society. The tales involve conflict resolution within nature or exploration, and/or the adventures of working together to achieve a common goal. There are no unkind characters or predators. Take a look at these illustrations.. It's dreamy, isn't it? This book had the power to make me wander with my imagination with those little mice. I was one of them and their adventures and life happenings were truly the best. A Year in Brambly Hedge (2010) — 4 book box set containing the seasonal first four books (5.75x6.93in)

Jill Barklem (born Gillian Gaze; 23 May 1951 – 15 November 2017) was a British writer and illustrator of children's books. Her most famous work is the Brambly Hedge series, published from 1980.Siamo nella siepe di Boscodirovo, l'inverno comincia, il vento gelido soffia da Est. The story follows the life of a few families through a whole year. It is divided into different seasons, so we have 4 parts: Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer. My favorites were Autumn and Spring, yes I must admit I am a Spring baby through and through. The Complete Brambly Hedge (1999) — 1 volume, produced for The Book People/Ted Smart by HarperCollins (7.75x10in) The family hope that a trail that allows people to follow in Jill Barklem’s footsteps through Epping Forest will be created in the future, taking in the locations found in the Brambly Hedge books, including the tree. Jill was born in Epping, the daughter of John and Ivy Gaze, who ran Pynes Stores, a family-owned department store in the town. At Loughton high school she suffered a detached retina that allowed her to skip all sports and concentrate on art and botany. After St Martin’s, she wrote a handful of picture books for Lion publishing and later contributed illustrations to some of their religious books. In neither was she able to include her visions of the English countryside, and always felt these books were less than her best.

The books, whose first titles were published in 1980, are written and illustrated by Barklem. The first four books follow the seasonal pattern of Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. Her later four books follow the mice's various adventures and activities.

Brambly Hedge has a traditional layout with the living spaces on the ground floor and the bedrooms upstairs. It's decorated in a chic, timeless style that suits contemporary guests and harmonises with the gardens and countryside views. They carefully make the most amazing courses and joyfully eat fantastic meals. It's wonderful and I was in love. I don’t think I’d realized how much I imprinted on the visual style and artistic themes until I saw them again as an adult. The rich yet soft colors! The light and shadow! The natural themes! The ornate and intricate detail-filled pictures! The cutaway views of houses built into trees and stumps! The food! Brambly Hedge is my ideal world. The way the mice live is completely natural, which is how I think life ought to be. They appreciate and use everything that grows around them. Theirs is a loving and caring society, but the mice are not just series and worth. They have FUN! Life is a series of picnics and gatherings, parties and outings." After an accident when she was thirteen, Jill was unable to take part in PE or games at school and instead developed her talent for drawing and art. On leaving school, she studied illustration at St Martin's in London. She became a full-time illustrator. She spent five years on research before she started to write her first stories about the mice of Brambly Hedge.
