About this deal

You can place TVs weighing up to 40kg on top, provided the stand fits well within the 545mm by 300mm surface area. If you have a TV over 50in, I’d recommend stepping up to the DM75 or DM100. If you are looking to improve on sound from your TV but don't want all the wires and clutter of a surround sound system then a soundbase is the obvious choice. The DM75 also features a cleaverly designed larger chassis to suit larger screen sizes as some people may have been put off at the fear of it being dwarfed by a large screen. As TVs get thinner, the laws of physics dictate that sound quality must get worse! There’s simply no room for decent speakers. Hence the rise in popularity of sound bars and bases. The difference between them is simply that sound bars usually sit in front of the TV whereas sound bases normally sit underneath the TV. However both have options for positioning them elsewhere. Joining the Stereo and DTS TruSurround from previous models is a new Voice mode that gives speech frequencies a boost, and a Hotel mode that lets you set a maximum volume limit. Two-channel Dolby Digital decoding is also on board. Canton DM100 – Setup & Operation

For operation, the Canton provides no onscreen display, just a three-character LED hidden behind the grille. This isn't exactly ideal because most of the time you just get a brief indication confirming a change in source, etc, plus a single light to indicate standby or full power. After spending an hour at richer sounds demoing I have decided to buy it, I also thought about getting Yamaha ysp2500 or monitor audio asb2 but was out of my budget. The DM75’s speaker arrangement is unusual for a soundbase. Much like full-size home cinema speakers, it uses a three-way bass reflex design with two 19mm fabric tweeters, two 50mm midrange drivers and four 100mm woofers. Power output is quoted as 200W and frequency response is 35Hz – 23kHz. Your music or TV is controlled via a free app on your computer, smartphone or tablet. From the app you can choose what music you want to play in a variety of ways. Numerous streaming services such as Spotify or Deezer can be accessed as well as internet radio stations or your iTunes (or equivalent) music library. You can stream music directly from your smartphone or tablet – but really you’re better off using your device as a controller. TV is just another source you can choose from the app: Selecting TV source from Sonos app Then upgraded to 5.0 with the tannoys and bought Sony 1040 had it for a month and loved it, I got my perfect set up, then came the idea to get a projector and re do the whole house, and with all these speaker wires on walls etc and av receiver it was a mess in my room.Typically you’ll connect it in the exact same way as the Playbar. Again, I’ve connected it directly to the WD TV via the optical input. There isn’t really any setup although you can configure sound adjustments via the remote, all explained clearly in the manual. I found the default settings fine. Constructed with top-quality materials, the soundbar ensures durability and reliability over time. Its sleek and compact design allows for easy placement and integration into any home entertainment setup. The Playbar provides so many more options for playing music. If you have other Sonos speakers, you can group them wirelessly with the Playbar for a multi-room experience. But it’s the app and the ease of playing whatever music you like, all through one simple interface that really sets the Playbar in a different league when it comes to music (and radio for that matter). Atmos sound bars are still expensive but I’m guessing like OLED it will come down in price every year and become the norm, right now you have to pay a premium or either buy an AVR system but that isnt practical with some users who want less wires and hassle.

All soundbases pretend they're ready for the task of doubling up as a plinth for your flatscreen TV, yet some tend to be quite narrow, making them inelegant – and sometimes impractical – partners for larger-sized screens. The introduction of Canton's lengthy DM100 is therefore a welcome move. Another option not officially supported by Sonos, is to connect all your devices via their optical output to an optical switch. This can be advantageous since some TVs don’t pass through exactly what they are sent. For example they may downsample 5.1 Dolby Digital to stereo. If you only have a Sky box connected to your TV, I’d connect directly from the Sky box to the Playbar to ensure any 5.1 content is played correctly. Canton's DM100 isn’t just a larger version of the more junior models with more drivers – two tweeters, four midrange and four bass drivers – and more power (200W). It introduces several new features, including a Voice sound setting to boost dialogue clarity, automatic selection of Bluetooth input, and an IR delete function for the removal of unwanted remote control commands. This model also boasts several upgrades from the previous DM soundbases. One of these is a new Bluetooth select function that automatically switches to Bluetooth when it detects an audio signal. If the issue persists, you might prefer to add an external subwoofer (in which case the DM100 rolls off low frequencies at 80Hz) – it’s great that Canton gives you the option. However, with judicious tweaking most people should be perfectly happy with the Canton’s built-in subs. Once properly integrated, bass sounds fast and agile, starting and stopping on a dime. In terms of performance the DM 75 is in a different league to its rivals. It’s powerful, assertive and remarkably refined – all the ingredients for a hugely entertaining listen. The 6 driver DM55 is the smallest of a range of soundbases from Canton, an established and well respected German brand. The 55 stands for 55cm (width). They also do a DM75 (8 drivers ) and DM100 (10 drivers) at 75cm and 100cm wide respectively with higher specs.

But when I demoed with the sub connected at richer sounds the quality for music improved, so I can imagine if I connect bk xls400 with this I will have the best of both worlds. I know with Forums you can get a sense that this issue is a frequent occurance because that is why we have posted comments, but I wonder how many are affected by this issue, 1 in 10, 1 in 1000, 1 in 50,000? - I get slightly more worried when I hear someone has the same issue twice - unusually for Lightning to strike twice unless the obvious is true and there is a Quality issue. The issues I've described above I've never had on any bars before and have never seen before until I plugged this bar in... The 9 driver Sonos Playbar is part of a complete wireless music system and can link wirelessly with all the other components in the Sonos range , including powered speakers like the Sonos Play:1 and wireless receivers like the Connect:Amp, that will turn a set of passive speakers into a streaming HiFi system. Before I request a replacement and sit without a soundbar I'm paying for for potentialy 2 weeks i thought i should spend the time to post here about the issue and see if anyone could help or offer advice!

To access the advanced sound settings, hold down the “play mode” or “sound” buttons and use the volume keys to turn them on and off. The setup menu is predictably basic on the three-digit display, but it’s better than the cryptic flashing lights used by other soundbases. Sound modes include Stereo and DTS TruSurround, plus a new Voice mode that boosts speech and a Hotel mode that sets a maximum volume limit. The DM55 will also decode two-channel Dolby Digital.
