About this deal

The range is impressive. You can walk up to 15 meters away, which means you won’t need to take your headset off when you walk into a nearby room and miss out on what your party is saying. Walls can still be an issue, so moving much more than one room away caused it to break up a bit — but you have more freedom to move, which is nice. The Corsair HS55 Wireless delivers a much improved audio performance over its predecessor and has a wider soundstage, thanks to the inclusion of digital surround sound. Now lets talk about the 7.1 system it has. Many people may say the virtual 7.1 surround sound is a gimmik. Go for a good quality stero headphone. But to me personally stereo feels a bit odd in games. The audio has no fill. But enabling 7.1 gives a huge advantage in games. The software’s built-in documentation explains how to use the headset’s features in greater detail.

It's primarily a gaming headset, though, and it performs better in this regard. There's enough definition between the highs, mids, and lows to make out different sounds in-game, and that's key if you, like me, play a game that relies heavily on sound cues to signal danger. I play a lot of Hunt: Showdown, and I didn't feel like I was missing important cues in-game with the HS55 on. Ultimately, this is a headset that pushes balance to the side and leans into its warm, boomy sound signature. You’ll be able to hear those competitive cues well — but if you want clarity and detail through the spectrum, this isn’t the headset for you. Microphone Quality on the Corsair HS55 Wireless Core The final thing to discuss here is the headset’s sole flagship feature: dual wireless connectivity. The HS55 Wireless Core is able to connect to two audio sources at one time: 2.4GHz wireless using the included USB Type-A dongle, and Bluetooth 5.2. 2.4GHz is intended for gaming and provides a low latency connection for a wired-like experience that’s also compatible with PlayStation 5. Bluetooth has higher latency, but still works with all of your usual devices, including the Nintendo Switch. COVERAGE: The plan covers all defects & malfunctions under the original manufacturer’s warranty. The plan starts the day after the manufacturer’s warranty ends. It does not cover physical or liquid damage, accessories, consumables or parts that are not covered under the standard manufacturer’s warranty.

Step one: Troubleshoot sound problems

With it comes an eye-catching silver and white colourway, some plush memory foam padding, and 50mm drivers that should offer some decent all-round audio on a vast range of devices – from your PS5 to a Nintendo Switch and PC.

There are bountiful reasons as to why a wireless gaming headset is a good decision. The most obvious being the freedom to get up and walk away from your desk at any time without dragging your PC tower off with you. A wired headset is hardly a hassle, but I'll admit it is nice to not have to keep taking my headset on and off every time I run off for a bathroom break or to grab a coffee between raid encounters. I've been testing a wired headset for the past few weeks, and so the Corsair's wire-free functionality has been a bit of a blessing. The performance of video conferencing and voice chat using apps like Discord, Zoom, Teams, or Facetime is outstanding, and while Corsair isn’t promoting the HS55 Stereo as a video conferencing solution, colleagues and friends will hear you loud and clear. Corsair has always had a reputation for creating clean-looking products, and the Corsair HS55 Stereo conforms to that ideal. My review sample was of the white and silver colour option, which gives the headset a modern look. And as for comfort the clamping pressure of this headphone is bit high but you will get used to it.We also appreciate the attempt to deliver digital surround sound. Though this headset sounds more intimate rather than expansive like a proper surround sound, it’s great in terms of spatial audio. You can hear the different individual elements around you, whether it’s the wind going from right to left or a battle going on around you. Still, don’t expect a wide soundstage, as it doesn’t feel very spacious, limiting its immersiveness. I will say that this mic isn't quite as convenient as some others, however. My colleagues said it came through a little quiet in meetings, which wasn't much of an issue as the flexi-arm allows you to bend it a little closer to your face. However, once bent into place, I found it tends to catch my hair and rest against my face a little once flipped up. It's a small thing, but it makes it just a little bit fiddlier than other headsets I've tested. Technically the headset supports Corsair’s iCUE software, but there’s little reason to ever use it for this headset, or at least use it more than once. The only options it offers are the ability to update the firmware and pair the headset with the wireless dongle if it somehow becomes unpaired. It’s a shame, because even a basic EQ would probably go a long way toward fixing the headset’s sound quality issues. As it stands, I would recommend opening iCUE at least once to update the firmware on the headset and dongle. Battery Life of the Corsair HS55 Wireless Core The sound quality is good overall, though not quite as rich and as full as we hoped. At default, there’s plenty of bass here, though perhaps not enough low bass extension to deliver that rumble you want from games and movies. There’s decent high end as well, but it’s a little rolled off so it doesn’t sound as crisp and detailed. The mid-range sounds a little recessed, particularly affecting the dialogue, which isn’t as crisp and clear. While you can still hear what the characters are saying, it sounds a little hollow.

The Corsair HS55 Stereo is the American brand’s latest excursion into the world of affordable gaming headsets. For best performance, bend the flexible microphone boom to best fit near the left corner of your mouth. A 30-degree bend is a good place to start, but you can adjust this if your mic is too loud or too soft. VOLUME CONTROL If troubleshooting sound problems doesn’t work, try uninstalling and re-installing the Corsair audio device drivers and iCUE: Those 50mm Neodymium audio drivers really do make games come alive, with every explosion or hit having a real robust sound. If there’s any criticism that we have with the performance of the Corsair HS55 Stereo, it is that the bass response can be a little strong. You might not hear it in your Discord or Facetime chat, but the problem is most notable with casual listening. CASHLESS & UNLIMITED REPAIRS: You DON’T PAY for any spare parts, labour or transportation charges. Unlimited repairs up to the invoice value of the device. The wired HS55 headset with its cable weighs in at 275g, and the HS55 Wireless is bang on at the advertised 274g, which means Corsair has kept pretty much the same weight despite adding a whole battery and extra controls to the HS55 Wireless. I'm impressed, honestly. Featuring 50mm Neodymium audio drivers with a frequency response of 20hz to 20khz, the average gaming user will seriously appreciate the sound on the Corsair HS55 Stereo gaming headset.
