About this deal

A Dutch engineer and industrial designer by the name of Gerard-Clement Smit founded Technivorm in the Netherlands in 1964. He had mostly been designing ladders and such, but he came across a coffee maker he thought he could improve upon, and in 1968 created the first Moccamaster. On the KBGV, this switch automatically adjusts the brewing parameters based on whether you’re brewing a half carafe or a full carafe of coffee. (The ‘V’ stands for volume.) North Americans won’t even have to decide. Your only choice will be between the KBGT and the KBT, so let’s get to the bottom of that ‘G’! One has it, one doesn’t. This is all about the drip stop.

Filter brewing can be a chore at times and every little helps when either brewing for yourself or others to nail that god brew each and every time. In our case we were looking for a way to brew for customers in our coffee shop on a small batch brew scale with equipment that doesn’t always get the limelight it deserves. Our weapon of choice….the Moccamaster KBGT, which cried out for a review once we got our hands on it. The Product ReviewAs with many electrical metal coffee brew systems (Espresso machines included) they require maintenance. That being said Moccamaster replacement parts are easily accessible. CD Grand: The CD Grand is a larger-capacity glass carafe model designed for cafés, small offices, and home entertaining. It has a commercial, flat-bottom brew basket. 1.8L / 60 oz capacity.

Yet, getting the perfect combination of water spray and temperature is harder than it sounds. The Moccamaster KBGT is designed to do that: a chunky retro-bit of kit, it forgoes some of the fancier features of its rivals to deliver excellent coffee in the simplest way. Design and features Netherlands is known for many things including an authentically chilled environment (puff puff), cycling, canals and even waffles, but an area that sometimes gets overlooked is its love for great coffee. More specifically, being home to one of the best home brewer brands on the market Technivorm Moccamaster. An Ultimate Coffee maker This model has a drip-stop mechanism on it: at any point, you can remove the carafe and the filter basket is sealed to prevent coffee dripping out. Coffee quality We’re here to help. There is a method to the alphabetic madness Technivorm uses in naming its models. We’ll do our best to explain it here. You should come away with a good idea about which Moccamaster to get. As you can see in the chart above, the selection is much broader at the 10-cup size. You cannot find an KBGV in the 8-cup size.KBGT: This model has an automatic brew basket stop, which stops the flow of coffee when removing the carafe. This brewer is ideal for those who typically brew a full carafe and are looking for the most straightforward process – add your coffee grounds and water, then flip the switch on – that’s it! 1.25L / 40 oz capacity. One thing to consider is the capacity. The European-made Moccamaster KBGV Select has a 40-oz max capacity, compared to the 50-oz capacity of Ninja's coffee machines. We usually had a little less coffee in our cups with the Moccamaster than we were used to with the Ninja (which in the long run may be better for our health).

The Moccamaster KBGT has been certificatied by a speciality coffee governing body AKA the Speciality Coffee Association (SCA). Filter coffee is one of the best ways of making coffee, particularly when dealing with a variety of coffee: you’ll get the maximum flavour out of a lightly roasted single origin, as you will from a darker roast. Moccamaster is worth the money, in the sense that it does indeed deserve to be the highest-priced drip coffee maker on the market. It makes the best coffee. It lasts the longest. Very few people who have owned one would dispute this. Here the folks at Seattle Coffee Gear try a taste test using a glass-carafe Moccamaster and a steel-carafe model, drinking the coffee one hour after brewing to see if they can taste a difference. They come to the same conclusion: The glass carafe, with its wider opening, is a little easier to clean. Not only is it easier to get your hand in, but the glass also doesn’t seem to require quite as much aggressive scrubbing as the steel.

We’re going to assume that you are looking at Moccamasters that brew 5-10 cups of coffee at a time, for home use. The company also makes Grand models for offices and cafés. We’re assuming that’s not for you. And if you’re looking for a single-cup maker, Technivorm makes one of those called the Cup One. But this post is concerned primarily with the typical family-size coffee maker for the home. How Technivorm Moccamaster models get their names KBG Select: The KBG Select model has glass jug with capacity of 1.25L / 40oz. The select switch allows you to choose between brewing a half or full carafe. This model has an automatic brew basket stop, which stops the flow of coffee when removing the carafe. The hot plate stays at a steady temperature for over an hour-and-a-half. That makes it easy to grab a couple cups of coffee throughout the morning without worrying about it going cold.

There isn't an alarm that signals when the coffee is ready — and the Moccamaster is one of the quietest coffee machines we've ever experienced — but upon manually timing our brew cycles, the results were consistent. A half carafe takes almost four-and-a-half minutes while a full carafe is ready in just under six minutes. Things get a little more complicated for those who want a 10-cup machine. Let’s break it down further by looking at what’s left in the glass and steelcategories. All of our thermal carafes are double-walled, stainless steel, and come with a Brew-Thru Lid, which allows coffee to be brewed and poured directly through the lid, minimizing heat loss. Thermal carafes maintain your coffee’s quality, integrity, and taste for up to an hour – even longer with the included Travel Lid.

This is purely a cosmetic difference. They’re going to brew the same coffee, so if you have access to both, it’s just a matter of deciding which look you like best.
