About this deal

The Revopoint POP is an excellent 3D scanner for makers and small businesses in need of an affordable, cost-effective scanner that’s compact, versatile, and can produce scans of objects both large and small. The Revopoint MINI employs dual camera blue structured light technology consisting of two IR sensors, a Class 1 blue light projector, and an RGB sensor. Your experience with nearly any 3D scanner depends on the object being scanned and the preparation you put into the process. After applying the texture, the quality of the model took a turn for the worse. The colors no longer mapped correctly, and the general texture didn’t look like it had been consistently applied. Unfortunately, Revo Scan 5 doesn’t offer any controls for adjusting the color or position of the texture, meaning the UV map of the texture isn’t something that can be controlled. I tried to apply a texture to a few other models, and had similar results where the colors actually looked better at the per-point level. Further down in this Revopoint MINI review you will see some A/B comparisons between the results of the Revopoint MINI 3D scanner and other scanners on the market. They will give you a better indication of what to expect from this 3D scanner instead of these raw numbers. Scan Volume

This is often the tradeoff for the high level of detail that comes with blue light scanning. So if you need to scan larger objects, you’re better off with a different type of 3D scanner, like the Revopoint POP 2 or the Einscan SP. Scanning Precision A better number to look at is the minimum point distance. This is the distance between two points in the created 3D point cloud data and is generally a better indicator of scanning quality. Setting the right distance to the object based on the included instructions is important. The same goes for object preparation. The dual-axis turntable A230 is a tailor-made accessory for Revopoint scanners. It adopts a 360° horizontal design, approximately 30° vertical angle, and a controlled rotation path for fast point cloud data acquisition. It solves previous issues of incomplete data acquisition or holes caused by improper operations such as ambient occlusion, which greatly improves the scanning quality and efficiency.

Scanning the same object several times from different angles is also key in creating a complete model. This isn’t specific advice for using the Revopoint MINI, but for working with any 3D scanner. Due to their similarities and the fact they’re all three based on the same design and structured light technology, it’s challenging to select a clear winner. They are all three excellent choices suitable for a different set of users and applications. With this technology, the MINI is able to scan at a speed of up to 10 FPS within a capture range of 64 x 118 mm. Revopoint has announced an impressive precision of up to 0.02 mm, and a mesh resolution of up to 0.02 mm (which basically corresponds to the distance between each point in the final mesh). What can you do with the MINI? The Revopoint POP 2 takes the blueprint established with the Revopoint POP and improves it with better precision, improved color capture, and smoother operation. Something that was apparent when I got some hands-on time for my POP 2 review. Are you looking for a job in the additive manufacturing industry? This color is applied at the point cloud level, where each point has a color applied to it. This isn’t a photo-realistic way to apply color, and isn’t easily transferred between programs like a textured mesh. The Texturing tool in Revo Scan 5 allows photos to be mapped over the mesh and the data is captured automatically if “Color Scanning” is enabled before scanning. Meshed and Textured Results This is especially true for small, handheld 3D scanners like the Revopoint MINI. They have a smaller sweet spot for the optimal scan and are more sensitive to movement. To go even smaller, I scanned the head of the Master Grade Gundam RX-78-2 to see if the fine detail would resolve. This model had been sprayed with a matte clear coat, so the dull surface and high level of detail looked like an ideal challenge for the Revopoint Mini.
