About this deal

One complaint I had with the previous model is that, in certain positions, the internal springs could sometimes rattle from vibrations that my keyboard produced. This was problematic because mic stands and arms need to be silent. Thankfully, the new PSA 1+ features neoprene sleeves and a redesigned internal spring system that Rode claims is now fully damped; both of which should help significantly reduce these noises, and in testing, I heard none of the rattling that I did with the PSA1. One item that would have made a nice extra is a storage or carry case. Chances are, if you are fixing the Rode PSA1 to your desk, you won’t be travelling with it. But as the boom arm is spring-loaded it does make it a little awkward to store (unless you want to keep the original box). Overall I was surprised by how much easier the PSA1 made recording. Even if I was a vocalist recording at home I could definitely see the Rode being beneficial. Long after this review is published, the boom arm will remain fixed to my desk and that pesky floor stand will be forever banished to the cupboard!

A concern when mounting this to your desk is that it’s going to fall over or cause damage but the clamp is sturdy and gave no reason to worry that your mic is going to tumble down mid recording session. The stand also supports a wider range of microphone weights now—especially on the lower end of the scale. The previous minimum was about 1.5 pounds, but now the arm supports mics that weigh as little as 0.2-pound. On the top end, the arm can handle mics that weigh up to 2.6 pounds. The spring-loaded arms are both metals, so there’s no need to worry about them suffering damage over time or through extended use. There isn’t a way of fixing this into the desk clamp, instead it just slots in. This would have been a nice touch however the arm slots in deep enough to not cause any concern. Combining sleek looks with completely silent operation and peerless stability, the PSA1+ is the ultimate microphone mount for podcasters, streamers and broadcasters. The original PSA1professional studio arm has long been recognised as the industry standard and is found on the desks of countless content creators. The PSA1+ builds on this legacy, introducing premium features and an innovative new design offering unmatched performance in any home or studio setup. KeyFeatures As an aspiring podcaster and content creator, I understand the importance of having a reliable and versatile microphone arm. After extensive research, I decided to invest in the Rode PSA1+ microphone arm, known for its exceptional build quality and flexibility. In this user's review, I will share my experience with the Rode PSA1+, highlighting its key features, performance, and overall value.

Overall I was very impressed with the PSA1 studio boom arm. It was an addition to my setup that I never thought of as essential, but now, having used it, I couldn’t see myself without one. It glides really smoothly but stops dead in position, which makes it feel abundant with quality every time you use it. For customers in outlying areas of the country, the price of the Extended Warranty may be marginally higher, due to the potential for higher collection and redelivery transport costs. It also seamlessly moves 360 degrees without any friction or sound. Never once have I heard the standard ‘squeak’ you often hear boom arms make when rotated. Podcasting has finally overtaken radio, becoming the “new norm” with more and more people investing in equipment to record and broadcast from home. So of course audio equipment manufacturers are now expanding their product ranges to include items specifically for home recording, which has never been more popular.Once attached, the boom arm is slotted in and sits in the hole tightly. The great news for you podcasters and streamers is that there is zero rattling or sound made from moving the boom arm around. All in all, the Rode PSA1 proved to be a great product for recording and I found I wasn’t worried about how I was sitting and had no concerns about moving around during recording. Compared to my previous setup, this is definitely a must-buy product! A Minor Complaint In the full review below, I’m going to look at why the Rode PSA1 is a game-changer for podcasting and streaming, and what you should know before buying one. I’m sure this is something Rode considered but with the arm being designed to swivel, adding a way of fixing it could ultimately inhibit the functionality of the stand so it isn’t really a big point to complain about! Functionality – 8/10 Collection and delivery costs are included for the first 2 years in the event of an item becoming faulty

The real test for the Rode PSA1 is during recording. As I’ve mentioned, one of the best aspects is the ability to move the position of the mic without having to unscrew nuts or make any adjustments. So to make the most of this review I used the PSA1 in a recorded interview and was really impressed with how different it felt. The setup itself was incredibly easy, taking me all of three minutes to mount it, attach it, and connect it to my microphone. I was good to go within minutes. You should get an instant answer on whether your application has been successful, though in some rare cases Klarna or V12 may need to look at the application in more detail.Cable management can be a hassle, but the Rode PSA1+ simplifies the process. The internal cable management system keeps the microphone cable neatly organized and hidden within the arm itself. This feature not only ensures a clutter-free workspace but also prevents any tangling or interference with the arm's movement. It's a small detail, but it makes a significant difference in maintaining a clean and professional setup. Finally, the tops of the neoprene panels now have built-in cable management loops. Those cable loops allow you to snake an XLR or USB cable along the contour of the arm and save you from having to dangle or loop your wires from it. The previous version of the arm used Velcro ties, so this change is another simple, but valuable, improvement. Smooth Operator As part of a studio rebuild I bought four of these booms to replace some aging and very twangy booms of dubious origin! Our main studio uses the SM7B and the PSA-1 supports these very well, balance is perfect and with a little patience feeding the mic cable through the channel in the upper leg of the arms and down through the centre of the base spigot gives a superbly sleek finish. As our guest positions were a custom made desk it was great to to use the circular flush desk mount drilled into the surface with its neat nylon collar (to avoid metal on metal) and a chrome bezel with the Rode logo on it. Nice touch of quality from end to end. The SM7B is hung from the spigot in it's classic formation and looks the part but he only point to note is the microphone's XLR connector casting restricts the horizontal movement a little at extremes but this isn't detrimental to normal use.
