About this deal
The galvanising is important as it means your metalwork has been dipped in zinc to provide a layer of protection against corrosion. As well as weather resistance, this process will also help fortify your scaffold board workbench in busy or abrasive environments – like a workshop, garage or bustling kitchen. Select the right metal work bench for your space They are a chunky bit of timber that gives them a wonderfully rustic and industrial vibe when making furniture. I have used the boards for shelving and making a world map desk as this DIY bench.
If you’d prefer to work with hardwood or another type of timber then try Wood Shop Direct as they will cut everything to size and deliver it to your door. Step by Step Guide - Picnic Table
As well as being good solid sturdy timber, scaffolding boards are very cheap. Especially old scaffolding boards, which can often be bought very cheaply and sometimes are even given away free by builders. Personally, I prefer to reclaim old boards for my scaffolding board furniture DIYs, as this only adds to their rustic aesthetic. Tutorial For A Scaffolding Board Furniture Bench
The scaffold board bench will use the same boards but they are going to be too wide by joining two together. We want the bench top to be about 360mm wide, therefore each board needs to be ripped down to 180mm wide. To do this I use my trusty table saw. To start things off you’ll need to source your materials. You’ll need scaffold boards for the table and bench top whilst for the legs you’ll need some welding knowledge or know someone who can make these for you. I don’t make the legs myself but read on to see where you can find some. Step 1. Sourcing materialsIt wasn’t until I added a broken old chair to my scrap hoard did I come up with an idea for my scaffolding board furniture. I decided to merge them both into a lovely reclaimed wood DIY bench. If you’re after something a little different for working at home or in the office, we have a new range of furniture that we’ve made from our salvaging work. Using scaffold board and poles that we’ve reclaimed and restored, we’ve created a whole range of industrial style desks, tables and benches using these wonderful original materials. If you’re looking for a less rustic finish on your dining table then you could consider using a different type of wood. For example, I have also made amazing dining tables and desks from American white oak and walnut. The finish is cleaner as they are made from hardwood, and will be much more durable than a scaffold board table. Here are a couple of my projects.
