About this deal

When pairing other Sena models, utilize the designated control, often the centre control (surface controls or Jog Wheel) to initiate BT pairing. If the two devices do not automatically pair, press the activating control on one system to complete the process; this will be confirmed by the flashing Blue LED. Sena 50S Ambient Mode Another thing to bear in mind, is that a helmet in say size Medium from one Manufacturer may fit completely differently to a Medium from another Manufacturer. Therefore we would always recommend travelling to a dealer to try a number of different brands to get the perfect fit for your head shape.

The 50S delivers not one, but three different intercom modes available to Sena riders: Multi-Channel Open Mesh Intercom™, Group Mesh Intercom™, and Bluetooth Intercom. With two Senas connected via Mesh the TomTom seemed to work fine, but I did notice that if either user presses the scroll wheel in, the Mesh connection is disabled as the unit connects via Bluetooth. Press the Mesh button and it reconnects, then disconnects itself, so you need to press the scroll wheel again to turn the Bluetooth connection off. The 50S includes 3 types of microphones, the boom microphone, the wired boom microphone and the wired microphone. The 50R includes 2 types of microphones, the wired boom microphone and the wired microphone. Though some hardcore bike riders do find a few issues like app glitches, short-range problems, and voice control matters as they do believe these features can be looked at and improved with the updates provided. How amazing would it be to get to talk to the other riders in your vicinity with just the press of a button? Or to communicate with your buddy riding along with you without any effort? Because when you’re on a motorbike, communicating can be a rather difficult job because of the wind and the noise. But the revised Mesh 2.0 feature of this product makes everything possible. It supports a large number of users within the 5-mile range.

Motorcycle Bluetooth headsets must be able to withstand adverse weather conditions and high winds. This ensures that the module can be used continuously irrespective of riding conditions, be it dust, wind or rain. Press the Centre and (+) Buttons at the same time for one second to turn the system ON or OFF. Volume Control This management approach has two key precepts: this ‘awareness’ between all devices allows Mesh 2.0 to select the optimal data path (minimal obstructions) to deliver messages; and relatedly, connected devices are constantly ‘polled’ to dynamically determine their presence and based on this information the best pathway for transmission is chosen.

Voice and Glove Controls

Be mindful not to put your mic directly in front of a vent, as whoever you are talking to will likely end up with an awful lot of wind noise! When the 50R is OFF, press and hold the Phone Button and Jog Dial for three seconds – the alternating Red/Blue flashing sequence appears indicating pairing mode and the ‘Phone Pairing’ announcement is heard. Put your mobile device in BT pairing mode (if needed) and select Sena 50S when it appears.

The Sena 50S-02 now offers an even more premium audio experience with SOUND BY Harman Kardon. Both the speakers and microphone were created with the audio experts at Harman Kardon to provide world-class sound for one of Sena’s most popular devices. Expertly crafted speakers and an all-new microphone allow the 50S to deliver an unmatched audio experience. The speakers send crystal clear audio to riders’ ears while the microphone, with a newly designed sensor, provides robust performance for voice communication while riding. This review focusses on the Sena 50S, though most of the functions are the same if you’re considering the R… First up for helmet installation on to the Schuberth C3Pro (Echo colourway) is the Sena 50R, the low profile – smaller, slimmer and (lighter) weight member of the Sena Series 50 family.A lot of this can be resolved by going into the settings on the App and selecting which device gets priority, so if your phone is playing music, you will want your GPS to speak over the music so you can get your directions. Bluetooth intercom is much improved with almost non-existent noise and far less interference overall. As often observed, rider to rider ranges are as good and often better than with Mesh; one road ride had a gap of close to 2.0km between riders without significant signal or audio degradation. On a far more positive note, if either the Google (Android) or Siri (iOS) feature is installed on the paired smartphone or device, speaking a loud wake word, like ‘Hey Google’ or ‘Hey Siri’ into the microphone results in the respective digital assistant waking up and responding, typically 8 times out of 10. MESH button. It’s positioning makes it very difficult, or nearly impossible to use with rain or cold weather gloves on. Switching from an Open MESH connection to a Private Group MESH or BT connection is very difficult due to the location of this button. IMO the better location would to have incorporated the Ambient button to perform this task.

While Google Maps and Calimoto on the phone will interrupt music that’s being streamed from the same device, the intercom will overpower it – so if someone speaks as the directions come through, you won’t hear them. Also, when the radio is on, the phone’s directions don’t interrupt it, so you can’t hear them (I also tried pairing the phone as a GPS but it wouldn’t work). An audio priorities option like that found on the Cardo could help here. Minor bug fix with the volume level of music when using Mesh Intercom while Audio Overlay Volume Management is enabled The Sena 50S (think ‘S’ for standard) variant with its larger chassis and higher profile frame and classic Jog Dial is obviously based on the 20S and 30K in basic look, feel and fit…but there are styling and functional differences. Sena provides three microphones with the 50S kit; the removable base boom piece along with a second separate boom microphone with mounting pieces for the helmet liner and a wired (thin wire) microphone; all three microphones utilize a 2.5mm plug for connectivity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Headset pairs with multiple BT devices – mobile phone or other smart device, navigation devices, MP3 players, Sena SR10 two-way radio adapter, or other devices using the Mobile Phone Pairing, Second Mobile Phone Pairing or GPS Pairing procedures When connecting into a Group MESH by pressing and holding the MESH button for 3 seconds, the announcement of connected in to the Group MESH should be heard as soon as the 3 seconds have expired, not after it has connected into the Group MESH. If you by mistake hold this button for more than the 3 seconds another function takes control. The redesigned HD speakers, common to both variants, are larger while providing a significant improvement regarding volume, bass, and clarity – a long overdue audio enhancement. More on the audio later.
