The dial on this wristwatch is intense. The combination of reflective and raised surfaces, a moving cluster of the watch’s sub-dials and the slightly-domed crystal make the dial great and interesting to look at. The wristwatch is also shinier and more sparkly than its pictures would suggest, making it the best choice for formal and for business wear. But if you are a first watch user or currently wears a digital watch, then you might have problem to tell the time because of the small markers. I bought it as my “math watch”, whatever that means. I intended it to be the watch I wear when speccing out and designing my tiny-home builds, or even performing organic chemistry in my fantasy (for now) home laboratory. My mental addition and subtraction skills are excellent, and I’m fast at longhand, but with the Flightmaster on my wrist, I’m an unstoppable math whiz. I’ve only actually needed the slide rule a handful of times, but I can’t express how pleased I was to use it. This wristwatch can be bought in watch stores, in Seiko stalls or shops and it can be bought online. Conclusion The Seiko ‘Flightmaster’ (SNA411) was the very first watch that jumped to mind when creating this selection of watches, due to its obvious resemblance to the Breitling legend.
The Seiko SNA411 is a quartz watch, which means that it’s powered by a battery. The seconds-hand moves in a sweeping motion (continually moving, instead of the “tik-tok” approach). The dial of the Seiko FlightMaster Watch SNA411 is a very busy dial. At first glance I can’t even see where is the markers and hands lol! But this is the face of an aviation/flight watch. It has both raised and recessed details, matte, polished, and brushed. The watch is equipped with Seiko’s proprietary Hardlex crystal which is slightly domed. It is not a sapphire crystal, which you wouldn’t expect for a watch in this price range, however, it has proven to be extremely durable and scratch-resistant. The Hardlex crystal is made in a way so that it doesn’t shatter as sapphire crystals do. This is especially important in a pilot’s watch, as the risk of shattering the crystal while flying can be a deadly safety hazard. After taking everything into account, such as design, build quality and price, this watch received a well deserved 8.5/10 from The Watch Blog. On the case rear you’ll notice some lasered text referring to what they describe as ‘Flame-fusion Crystal’. This is their custom type of sapphire-coated mineral crystal, which gives slightly better scratch resistance than typical mineral glass. Their marketing of this material may have you believe this is also superior to sapphire crystal, though my experience shows otherwise. Whilst being constructed of the same material, the 903 has a higher level of finishing and there are also some differences within the case.The bezel of this wristwatch has a grippy type sawtooth edge and it has a smooth bi-directional motion or action, so it makes the adjustments and the calculations as easy as a snap.
For the money, the Seiko SNA411P1 is a fun and unique piece that despite its larger size on paper is rather universal and can be worn for all kinds of occasions. Which is why I had to make an exception to this Seiko Flightmaster SNA411 – it’s so darn cheap and have all the bells and whistles in an aviation watch. It’s definitely worth having in mind the next time you’re going shopping for watches. This would make a great, affordable addition to any collection. Seiko FlightMaster SNA411 really has a very distinct dial design which you will either love it or hate it. It’s super busy and will turn off lots of people.Seiko watches are known for their great build quality, and the Seiko SNA411 is of course no exception. This watch is sturdy. As it was built for the use of pilots, who are exposed to an incredible amount of G-Force and pushed around in a jet, it needed to be durable. This brand doesn’t have the heritage or recognition of most other Swiss-made brands, so won’t retain its value the same way that rivals might.
