About this deal

The Soulmate Equation has it all: a cheer-worthy couple, tons of chemistry, an adorable and funny supporting cast, and the most interesting premise.

A smart or science-y spin to your love stories or if you enjoyed The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion. Also, read this if you enjoyed the premise behind The One, either the Netflix show or the John Marrs book it's based on. Felicity offered a dainty hand as if for him to kiss and, after a beat of confused hesitation, Americano gripped her fingertips for a brief handshake. With patience as my ally, I awaited the book's official release date. Once in possession of my own copy, I was pampered with an abundance of digital reviewer copies, a bounty that unintentionally led to procrastination in commencing this very book. Finally, having trimmed down my reading list by resorting to sleep-reading (my answer to friends curious about my seemingly insurmountable reading list, and even one inquisitive Goodreads member daringly suggesting I might be an A.I. - a comment that resulted in my comical fall from the couch), I embarked on this literary journey. There are so many lovable side characters in here, including Jess's outspoken romance-writer best friend Fizzy, her adorable and smart kid Juno, and her grandparents who have been helping and supporting her for as long as she can remember. The whole cast added so much humor and heart to this story.

JESSICA DAVIS USED to think it was an honest-to-God tragedy that only twenty-six percent of women believed in true love. Of course, that was nearly a decade ago, when she couldn’t imagine what it felt like to be anything but deeply and passionately obsessed with the man who would one day be her ex. Tonight, though, on her third first date in seven years, she was astounded the number was even that high.I re-read this book by listening to the audiobook of this book. I really enjoyed this book, and the second time was just as good as the first time I read it. I had forgotten the beginning of this book. I think the beginning was so cute. I loved the characters of this book. I love the character of Dr. River, and I think him and Jess is so cute together. I loved the narrator of this audiobook. Juno went quiet behind her, and understanding dropped like a weight in Jess’s chest. She turned to find her kid wearing the enormous-eyed expression of preemptive begging. “Juno, baby, no.” This book is listed as a stand-alone. But there’s several references to the previous novel, The Soulmate Equation. So if you do have the opportunity…read that one first and it’ll make the experience of diving into this novel that much better! I'd suspect most people comment on your eyes,' he said quietly, running a fingertip across her collarbone. 'That startling, bright blue.' There is Love and then there is DNA Matching. All I can say after reading this book is, if such a thing actually existed, I’d sign up!

Connor Price produces documentaries. (Boring!)🥱. But the company he works for is going in a completely different direction and asks Connor to put together a reality dating show featuring none other than Fizzy Chen! I liked Jess, she felt realistic, bringing Juno up, working and trying to pay the bills. She was smart, kind and family orientated. The stress of her morning routine, trying to get Juno ready and to school felt very familiar! It took me a while to warm up to River, he was quite an unlikeable, workaholic, aloof character to begin with. I did end up liking him more as the story progressed, but maybe a dual POV would've helped here? Fizzy felt like a caricature. I think the intention was to make her this sex positive woman but instead it was actually her entire personality and it made her feel like this creeper instead. Conor just didn't have a personality and seemed to fall in love with Fizzy bc she was trying to jump his bones at every opportunity. And what happened to her grand parents?! They were pretty consistently part of the story until suddenly they weren't. Just another mellow dramatic plot device/point that was dropped as soon as it wasn't needed any more? Personally, I think Daniel has no idea what he’s talking about. Rich men who look like that are too married to their jobs during the day and their investment portfolios at night to think about anyone’s love life.In Chapter 9, Fizzy comments, “I didn’t expect my dates to be life-altering, and they weren’t. Was it because the test is right, or because I didn’t expect them to be soulmates?” Discuss the potential effect of knowing the statistical likelihood of breaking up before you begin dating someone. Do you believe the app creates a self-fulfilling prophecy, or is the algorithm that accurate? For River Pena, the scientist behind the technology, learning that he has his own diamond match (98%) astounds him. If he was not the scientist who created it, he wouldn't believe it. A diamond match is almost unheard of and this could make his company become an instant success. Learning that Jess is his match flabbergasted him until he starts spending time with her and Juno. Jess Davis had basically given up on love and the thought of dating left her cold. But when her bestie Fizzy talked her into sending a DNA sample she agreed in a moment of weakness. This reading group guide for The Soulmate Equation includes an introduction, discussion questions, and ideas for enhancing your book club. The suggested questions are intended to help your reading group find new and interesting angles and topics for your discussion. We hope that these ideas will enrich your conversation and increase your enjoyment of the book. I did like the questions about fate, science and choice, that was interesting. As was the talk about the forced feeling of trying to make it work if you are matched, how much is down to attraction and suitability, and how much pressure is there from a high percentage match?
