About this deal

If you have a large garden but low pressure, you’ll have to buy several oscillating sprinklers if you don’t want to keep moving one around.

Unless you have a large garden, you may find that a rotary sprinkler wastes water, watering fences or even your neighbour’s garden. Rectangular Oscillating Sprinkler Next we get these simple little grey buttons on the side. This gives you the option to open or close certain water spouts. Again, no unnecessarily watering the patio, you can keep the water flow exactly where you need it.

The soloman sprinkler is a quirky entry that has a functional ornamental vibe to it. It looks like a dreamcatcher that caught an opulent dragonfly or butterfly. We had to have it. Overall, you want a sprinkler with a range of spray patterns that oscillates in a way that suits your space. Also, a quality hose connector is a must– there’s nothing worse than a leaking sprinkler! We test garden sprinklers by connecting them to a hosepipe and putting them to work on a flat garden lawn for a period of 20 minutes. We measure the range covered by the spray and look at the density and coverage of the spray pattern, to see if it leaves obvious gaps – or throws more water out in some places than in others. A rotating sprinkler will generally have some adjustable spray settings. You may be able to alter the rotation speed and power. However, you can’t generally change the spray patterns much. Firstly, let’s start with the yellow tabs on the side. This enables you the adjust its range of motion. For me personally, this means being able to avoid unnecessarily watering my artificial grass, and instead being able to perfectly target my raised beds. Very clever.

Whilst the sprinklers above are temporary, and attach to a garden hose when required, a pop up sprinkler is part of a more permanent irrigation system. Sprinklers that last will usually be made of similar materials, such as ABS, polyethylene, or polypropylene plastic, and rust resistant metals or ones that have been coated to protect against corrosion. This model is a strange looking little thing, almost resembling a mini surface to air missile launcher or futuristic tank. The plain blue plastic base is in contrast with the grey sprayer head and its multiple orange switches, and it certainly stands out. This colour scheme is probably going to be one of those love it or hate it things, but I did like that it made the sprinkler easy to see and therefore less likely to be trodden on. The flow rate of course depends on the water pressure in your area. Kärcher claim the maximum coverage area is 320m2. In real times, this is probably enough to cover a small garden without having to change the sprinkler’s location. For medium gardens you might have to reposition it once or twice. And for larger gardens a bit more. But that’s of course to be expected with any sprinkler. Not all sprinklers are created equal. It’s important to choose the best garden sprinkler to ensure that you get an even spray without leaks or water wastage causing problems.

Wet riser systems designed, installed, tested and maintained

The orbit travelling sprinkler is powered from your water pressure, and as the two metal sprayers spin, helicopter style, on top, the mini tractor is propelled forward. It’s really simple, but very clever. Assembly and setting up is a piece of cake too, no more difficult than installing the Karcher oscillating sprinkler, except perhaps one small part when you need to use a little bit of force to pop a couple of plastic pieces over the metal spray rods. Manufacturers will also talk about the size of the area the sprinkler covers in square metres. This gives you a good idea of how much of your garden will get watered, but keep in mind that the spray pattern will have an impact. Remember: if your sprinkler can’t water the whole lawn or garden, you can always move it around (though you might want to turn it off first). Is there anything else worth looking out for? The sprinkler head sits below the ground until the sprinkler is turned on. It then ‘pops up’ to start watering. Because of the adjustable pattern and flow control, rectangular sprinklers are suitable for most sized gardens. They attach to a garden hose and can be stored away when necessary. As with nearly all modern models, you can adjust the spray radius on the Orbit travelling sprinkler within a 15 to 50 feet diameter. This adjustment is as simple as changing the angle of the sprayer tips, and even without really good water pressure, the sprinkler has decent coverage.

A garden sprinkler can save you time and effort, as well as water and money. However, it’s important to find the best lawn sprinkler to suit your specific garden. Now, we all love a tool with adjustable settings – but isn’t it great when you’re not limited to just the 3 or 4 gradient settings provided by the manufacturer? But what if my water pressure isn’t high?”, you ask. Well, this sprinkler will still be able to water the garden, but you may have to re-position it several times for better water distribution.
