About this deal

asked Thumbelina to join him in the warm sun, flying around all day surrounded by flowers and other birds. Thumbelina to sing for the blind mole. Thumbelina did. The mole immediately fell in love with Thumbelina. Frank, Diane Crone; Frank, Jeffrey (2005). The Stories of Hans Christian Andersen. Durham, NC and London, UK: Duke University Press. ISBN 0-8223-3693-6.

Thumbelina awoke to the sounds of the field mouse scurrying around in a panic to spotlessly clean the hole where they lived. The 2002 animated film The Adventures of Tom Thumb and Thumbelina is loosely based on the fairy tale. [13] Mattel's Barbie: Thumbelina from 2009 was also presented as a modern retelling of the story, while its plot has little-to-nothing to do with Andersen's tale. [14] favorite was a pair of gorgeous wings that reminded her of the butterfly’s she had first seen at the beginning of her journey. What a pretty flower,’ exclaimed the woman and she bent down to kiss the petals. As she did, the petals burst open. There, sitting in the middle of the flower, was a little girl. ‘How tiny and delicate she is,’ said the woman. ‘Why, she is no bigger than the tip of my thumb. I will call her Thumbelina.’A woman yearning for a child asks a witch for advice, and is presented with a barley which she is told to go home and plant (in the first English translation of 1847 by Mary Howitt, the tale opens with a beggar woman giving a peasant's wife a barleycorn in exchange for food). After the barleycorn is planted and sprouts, a tiny girl named Thumbelina (Tommelise) emerges from its flower. Just outside the wood where she was now living lay a great cornfield, but the corn had been gone a long time and only the dry, bare stubble was left standing in the frozen ground. This made a forest for her to wander about in. All at once she came across the door of a field mouse, who had a little hole under a corn stalk. There the mouse lived warm and snug; with a store room full of corn, a splendid kitchen and dining room. Poor little Thumbelina went up to the door and begged for a little piece of barley, for she had not had anything to eat for the last two days. No, it must never be!” So they gathered together in the water, round the green stalk which held the leaf on which the little maiden stood, and gnawed it away at the root with their teeth. Then the leaf floated down the stream, carrying Thumbelina far away out of reach of land.

A beautiful little white butterfly fluttered above her, and at last settled on the leaf. Thumbelina pleased him, and she too was delighted, for now the toads could not reach her, and it was so beautiful where she was travelling; the sun shone on the water and made it sparkle like the brightest silver. She took off her sash, and tied one end around the butterfly; the other end she fastened to the leaf so that now it glided along with her faster than ever. The moral of this story is clear that we will encounter many problems and obstacles in our life. Many of doing something that we don't want, but as long as we are true to ourselves, honest and kind, just like Thumbelina, we will overcome these obstacles and in the end get what is best for us. Thumbelina didn't want to hurt anyone or anybody, not for a moment. She was fair and helped the needy. Once, as she lay at night in her pretty bed, there came an old toad hopping through the window, in which one pane was broken. The toad was very ugly, big, and damp; it hopped right down on to the table, where Thumbelina lay sleeping under the red rose-leaf.Once Thumbelina and the fairy king joined as king and queen, all of the flowers in the meadow each blossomed open to reveal one or two fairies sitting Thumbelina - Character Designs, Cornelius, Thumbelina, and Bumble Bee".
