About this deal

The PX7s look and feel a little cheaper than their predecessor, but we’d take them for their extra comfort. Ultimately, they’re still one of the more striking pairs of headphones on the market. Their price tag won’t be easy to swallow for many, but the detail, dynamic and organisational improvements these offer over the rest of the B&W headphones range, makes them worthy of their price, not to mention their flagship status. For the first time in a pair of B&W headphones, the PX7 S2 features support for the Bowers & Wilkins Music app. This not only supplies useful information about your headphones and offers scope for tweaking the EQ (bass and treble bands), but also seeks to corral the music you regularly listen to. It's well-designed and easy to use, plus you can actually set the wearer sensor to either 'low', 'normal' or 'high' depending upon how well the headphones seem to respond to the presence of your noggin. It all adds value, and even during long listening sessions, the extra cushioning on the ear pads here feels high-end and proves supremely comfortable. This B&W PX7 is stunning, I'm so glad that I made the right choice, was conpare Sony WH1000xm3& Bose 700, the PX7 wins my ear! someone may notice the build quality like Sony is very plastic look, and I went to Cost co to test out the WH-1000xm3 ,it acutraly broken .....must be many ppl touch it,. same as the Bose QC35, plastic feel. But we want to focus on sound and style here. The on-ear controls feel premium, cool and luxurious. The aluminum headband slides silently, and those new drivers are angled so that every bit of your ear gets the right treatment – B&W really has thought of everything.

Yes, the PX8 echo the current inclination towards designs with cups that rotate to lie flat but do not fold up, including the Sony WH-1000XM5and Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2(over the older, foldable Sony WH-1000XM4, say). Now on to what we can tell you: these over-ears offer agility, gazelle-like dynamic grace and surgical precision. And they do all of it in spades. Deadmau5's 4X4=12 is weighty, precise and textured through the difficult and intentionally bloated bassline. But then, the PX8 opens out to reveal a wide soundstage marked with stark synths. It's as if these over-ears are hellbent on exposing jagged, angular sonic diamonds in the rough – in the best way.Audio retransmission comes courtesy of the charging case and it’s extremely simple to use. Once plugged into your source via the included USB-C to USB-C or USB-C to 3.5mm cables, audio will automatically be streamed to your buds over aptX Low Latency. You can also use it to transmit audio to other B&W headphones, including the PX7 s2 and PX8 over-ears. Of course, that's all very nice indeed, but how they sound when you put them on your head is what really matters. And it may not surprise you to hear that B&W has not dropped the ball from a performance perspective. In that time, she has covered the highs and lows across the breadth of consumer tech, and tested everything from smartphones and stereo speakers to robot lawnmowers and electric cars. She has a particular interest in audio and TV, however, which means she has spent a lot of time watching movies and listening to music and passing it off as work. They’re also among the most handsome earbuds around (if you don’t mind them protruding a little way out of your ears), while the new colourways – particularly the Midnight Blue – only serve to enhance their aesthetic appeal. The improvements to in-ear stamina, connection range and stability are welcome, too, although in the case of battery life, the increase is relatively small. The PX7 S2 come in a hard-shell case with two cables for charging/a wired connection in the raised portion (Image credit: TechRadar) Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2: audio performance

Often, a set of over-ear headphones can be described as "fun" rather than "analytical", or "precise and refined" rather than "zealous and exciting". Bowers & Wilkins has aimed to be both here, and almost succeeded. But not quite. The Sonys might have pipped them to a 2019 What Hi-Fi? Awards Best Buy, but these are fine alternatives – especially for those who value sonic sprightliness and street-cred style.

Px8 McLaren Edition wireless headphones

Of course, B&W expects most users to listen to music over Bluetooth. The Px7 S2 have Bluetooth 5.2 with support for SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD and aptX Adaptive codecs (the same as the Px8), the latter three of which provide Android devices with a higher-quality (though still lossy) wireless connection. For those who watch or play games on their phone, aptX Adaptive can be particularly useful as it allows dynamic bit-rate variation to avoid connection issues in congested wireless environments. A nice touch here is the ability to set the streaming quality (using your mobile data or Wi-Fi) and also the wearer sensor, the latter at low, normal, or high. If the PX8 fail to pause when you lift an ear cup to talk to a colleague, switch it to high. Find them pausing unexpectedly during use? Switch it to low. The B&Ws follow the melancholic melody of Linkin Park’s Leave Out All The Rest with expert precision. The shift from fragile and emotional verse to explosive chorus is delivered with both finesse and purpose. We caveat this early appraisal by stating that we had around an hour with the PX8 in total –not long enough to head outside and test how well they cancelled traffic, or how generously they filtered in ambient sounds when we wanted them to. We also did not toy with the in-app features or EQ presets a great deal. All of that will be part of the full review.
