The Endangered Species Coalition is enthusiastic to announce the awards for the 2022 contest! In 2022 ESC will provide a total of six student artist awards. In addition, we’re pleased to offer awards to teachers whose students are awarded one of the final six prizes in 2022. The teacher awards are provided with the intention of increasing student access to high-quality art materials in the classroom, and recognizing teachers for their hard work supporting the contest. The educator who instructed the student in creating the work submitted to the contest will be eligible for the award. Habitat destruction as a result of urban expansion, as well as farming, has made it harder for many species to survive. As well as being at risk of accidental fishing, turtles are poached for their meat, shells, skin, and eggs. Both turtles and their habitats can be harmed when poisonous chemicals are dumped into the ocean, too. Light pollution near the shore can also cause baby turtles to become disoriented when they hatch. This causes them to wander inland rather than towards the sea, causing them to die of dehydration and at the hands of predators.This poster provides the space for children to design their own posters, using inspiration from the examples on the sheet and things they have learnt from previous lessons. The preliminary judges select the top forty semi-finalist artworks. From these forty semifinalists, the six final contest winners are chosen. Two separate judging panels, who are arts professionals, artists, and arts educators from across the U.S., select the semifinalists and finalists. The final six winning categories include: Grand Prize, First Place, and four Grade Level winners. The Grade Level winners include four groups: Grades K-2, Grades 3-5, Grades 6-8, and Grades 9-12. Blue whales are the biggest creatures to have ever lived on earth. This means that they’re even bigger than the dinosaurs! Moreover, blue whales can weigh up to 200 tons, which is a whopping 181,437kg. Despite their size, blue whales only eat tiny crustaceans called krill. An adult blue whale can eat up to 40 million krill a day.
