About this deal

Think about their daily life; food, babies, habitat. What would you like to know? (We will research it tomorrow- just the questions today) Try it out with some objects to help you. Use even numbers only to start with (end in 0,2,4,6,8) You can use a bar model to help you. Make a foil Elephant for display- supplies: foil, glue, cardboard, paint. (You could try sharpie or similar instead of paint, it should work, but I have not tried it) When Beryl is fully grown her mass should be 10 times the mass she was when she first came to live with them. What should her mass be then? (multiply by 10)

Mrs Mills, Mrs Bailey, Mrs Cooke and Mrs Hudson are all working away to put the best learning opportunities for you on here. Each day we will add new activities for you to have a go at and new challenges for you to explore. We are an Abbeywood Family and I know you will be lifelong learning from home. Think about the character of Heather. What words and phrases would you use to describe her? How is she similar / different to you? There should be more than one paragraph and you should use full stops. There should also be some noun phrases to describe the setting/characters (curlybrown hair, beautiful golden throne) Recognise vowel and consonant digraphs and blending by playing this game or add suffixes playing this game.Traditional celebration: Talk to an adult and ask about any traditional celebrations you may have as a family. Why do you celebrate them? How do you celebrate them and when? Do you have to wear different clothes and eat different food? Could you record this in a picture or piece of writing

This could be one you already have lined up for lunch or dinner ( it could just be a sandwich cut into an interesting shape)Each lesson includes their resources. These lessons are made for a Year 3 class, however, they could be used for Year 2 or Year 4 too. There is something nostalgic and poignant in David Litchfield’s storytelling. We don’t know why Heather is quite so desperate to be discovered by aliens and taken into space. Yet her vigil is shown to us in sequences as one long night, followed by other long nights, as she flashes her torchlight into the sky longing for an other worldly response. You could film them making it like my world kitchen (or just watch some of these for inspiration....who doesn't love Ainsley Harriet!) I have added more activities to Mathletics to support your maths learning this week. Please keep up the brilliant work on there.

Design a machine that could help Heather communicate with her alien friend when they are separated. A bar model is sharing out/dividing equally from the whole number/group of objects into the 'parts' of a fraction. Quarters means we share equally into 4 groups. 1/4 means the answer is how many in 1 group. 12 At 18 months old, Beryl the puppy has a mass of 60 kg. Her owners say this is 5 times the mass she was 15 months ago when they first got her.Imagine they are going to be one of the characters from the story and an adult is going to be Judge Jenny. What would they say to Judge Jenny? How could they persuade her? What did you think of The 'Three Little Wolves' story above? I'd like you to write a letter to explain to Mummy Wolf all that has happened. Don't forget to tell her all about the different animals that helped you and use your emotion vocabulary to tell her how scared you were each time.....try to use different words that all mean scared (like terrified or frightened) to make it interesting for the reader. Draw pictures of different animals. Sort the animals into two groups; suitable for a pet and not suitable for a pet. Explain why animals were sorted in a particular way. Have youever taken part in an ‘Egg and Spoon Race?’ Find some family members to take part. (The rule is to balance an egg or similarly shaped item upon a spoon and race with it to the finishing line) Your grown upscan decide on the prize: it could be an Easter Egg or a day of wearing PJs all day! Ask your parent to help andblindfold you with a scarf or material. What can yousee now? Which sense are youusingnow?

They could also look through a magazine or newspaper and find the names of different countries. What we are looking for might be closer than we think.” What does this mean? What is the story trying to teach us? If you don’t have access to books or magazines use the learners guides https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zyhp34j)

Story choice

Investigate how they can find 1/2 of different amounts (even numbers only to start). Explain "We write this down as 1/2 or half. The whole number is shared equally into two parts. To find half we count 1 part that is why it is 1/2" You can develop this further by looking at quarters- 4 parts counting 1 part. Some of the animals' paw prints would reach exactly 20 cm if you placed them one in front of the other from the same starting point like this: References to late 70s/early 80s Spielberg ‘classics’ abound; ‘Close Encounters…’ and ‘E.T.’ clearly inspiring David’s illustrations – a red Elliott-style hoody featured at the end of the book, too good to just be a coincidence! Write a letter from Heather to the alien from the time when she is waiting to meet her friend again. Scientists group animals into three different groups according to what animals eat. These groups are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.
