They linked the craze, known as "logging" or "Code Brown", to a scene akin to it in the film. In the Herald Sun, Leigh Paatsch gave the film one star. He criticised the casting, describing the main characters as "supposed to be aged about 20 [but] played by blokes who all look as if they’re 30-plus, and carry on as if they’re not yet 10", and also found the film misogynistic, saying "the derogatory manner in which women are spoken of (and often depicted) is relentlessly, callously crass. Sometimes even hateful". [40] A mixed review from Philippa Hawker of the Sydney Morning Herald concluded "The Australian elements seem hastily inserted and incidental: the movie could have been set in any country that had a water park and a place to get lost. But as a hymn to male bonding, and an exploration of the comic possibilities of what happens when a turd hits a water slide, The Inbetweeners 2 is a precisely crafted, assured piece of work". The Inbetweeners Movie (known simply as The Inbetweeners in North America) is a 2011 British coming-of-age teen adventure comedy film based on the E4 sitcom The Inbetweeners, written by series creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris and directed by Ben Palmer. Like Jody, the heroes of The Inbetweeners 2 don't have much in the way of role models. Fathers and uncles taunt the heroes with insults or sexual boasts, while mothers misjudge cringingly the point where chumminess ends and parenting begins. I'm sorry to say that, if you're one of those parents who boasts smugly about your son or daughter being more like your best pal than your offspring, then you're part of the problem. The confusion is played out on the streets of most cities, where the middle-aged dress in the jeans and T-shirts of their teenage years while youthful hipsters adopt a fashion style associated more readily with their parents. Can you imagine what it must be like ID-ing customers in pubs and clubs these days, when 13-year-old boys are wearing deerstalker hats and abundant beards as their dads conceal bald patches under hoodies? That ageist (and usually misogynistic) insult "mutton dressed as lamb" can only lose its bite when so many lambs are busy passing themselves off as mutton. Eames, Tom (21 August 2012). " 'Inbetweeners' movie sequel confirmed to be in the works". Digital Spy . Retrieved 4 August 2013. Shenton, Zoe (5 August 2014). "The Inbetweeners 2 premiere: Emily Berrington dazzles alongside co-stars on the red carpet". Daily Mirror . Retrieved 9 August 2014. Win An Epic Adventure to Queensland!". STA Travel. Archived from the original on 5 August 2013 . Retrieved 3 August 2013. In a montage over the credits, the four travel from Australia to Vietnam, and then spend time in Thailand and Cambodia. Upon their return to the United Kingdom several months later, Simon, Will and Neil have considerably longer hair, while Jay has his hair in braids. Neil is in a relationship with an older female traveller from the Byron Bay hostel, while Will's mother announces her engagement to Mr Gilbert, much to Will's horror. Toomey, Matthew (13 August 2014). "Interview - Meeting The Inbetweeners!". The Film Pie . Retrieved 15 August 2014. It's a comforting narrative that carries biblical echoes of the fall from grace. It is also, as anyone not living in a movie will attest, largely hogwash. There is no single moment that turns the child into the adult as definitively as throwing the light switch in a darkened room. That is why two current and very different coming-of-age movies represent reprieves of a sort from this mode of storytelling.
