I'm still awaiting a response from Ravensburger North America as to whether this new version will appear in English. Update, Dec. 9, 2022: I've received word from Ravensburger North America that this new version of The Quest for El Dorado will be released in North America in 2023. Cards you play to move onto a base camp space aren't discarded. Instead, they are completely removed from the game. They won't be used again this game.
Play one card from your hand and place it above your expedition board. Most cards have a power value. The power value allows you to move 1 or more spaces of the same type adjacent to the position of your playing piece. Then, you may play another card to make an additional move. The lust for gold spans all eras, races, and nationalities. To possess any amount of gold seems to ignite an insatiable desire to obtain more. Unlike No Mercy or the next Mandoo Games title (Treasures of Nakbe), Gang of Dice is a Knizia design with no history that I’m aware of. It’s also admittedly the Mandoo game I was most looking forward to trying precisely because it is the most unique of the bunch.

If there is at least one vacant spot on the market board, you may choose any expedition card that you can afford, even if they aren't on the market board. If the chosen card is from one of the piles next to the market board, place its pile on the vacant spot. At the beginning of the game, you may choose from any of the 6 different expedition card piles on the market board. Once all 3 cards of a pile have been sold, you gain access to the cards next to the market board.
If the last player of a round reaches one of the finishing spaces first, the game immediately ends. To win, you must reach El Dorado first with both of your pieces. If both players manage to reach El Dorado with their second playing piece during the final turn, use the normal tie-breaker rules. Your draw pile is empty? If your draw pile doesn't contain enough cards to draw for your next turn, draw as many as possible. Then, shuffle your discard pile to form your new draw pile, then draw the rest of the cards you need.Designed for 2-4 players and suitable for ages 10 and up, The Quest for El Dorado is a game that's easy to learn but challenging to master. With stunning artwork and high-quality components, it's a game that's as visually appealing as it is fun to play. If you still have cards in your hand (experts or items), you can now choose to keep them in your hand for your next turn, or discard them as well. You may decide for each card individually.
As an aside, I think the rules questions in our first game were a bit of an oddity (love you, Steve). The game is more complex than the original, but not by much, and wouldn’t hardly be at all without the gold. However, the rulebook could use some improvement. While it is usually clear with parenthetical remarks about a ruling, it would be better if they had more distinct language between, for example, a single card used for movement and the overall “Movement” phase. Also, Guardians are referenced in the rulebook before they are even introduced, which was jarring. The final Mandoo x Knizia collaboration is yet another design with a storied past. This one is a reimplimentation of Ravensburger’s Drachenhort (2015). Notably, Ravensburger never brought this title to North America despite it being a solid family game. But I suppose that doesn’t matter any more, because Treasures of Nakbe (1) does include English rules, (2) will hopefully make its way to the US, and (3) features some interesting new twists to the gameplay. Choose a card on the market board that you can afford and put it face up on your discard pile. You may neither use that card during this turn, nor put it directly in your hand. The card will eventually be shuffled into your draw pile with the rest of the discard pile.The path to El Dorado leads through different types of terrain: landscape (green, yellow, blue), rubble (gray), and base camp (red). The first challenge is to find a publisher interested in the game," says Knizia. "Ideally that would be a publisher who is willing and able to take the game and market it to its largest potential worldwide. No publisher can do that by themselves, but many publishers have built up networks that extend their reach. I would like to work with a publisher who can do that because I'd give the game to one publisher, deal only with them, then everyone would work from the same template, which leads to bigger co-publications, which is more cost effective." That said, this doesn't mean that expansions for The Quest for El Dorado will appear for this version of the base game right away. "It's a bit too early for us to talk about those", says van Buggenum. "Speaking for 999 Games, usually a board game first has to 'prove itself' in our market before we print an expansion. For now, the currently planned production of the Vincent Dutrait version is for the base game only."
