Using a wooden bed rail is a fantastic way to help your child transition from a cot to a bed while giving you peace of mind. The Safetots range of wooden bed guards is available in several subtle colours, such as white, and includes extra wide and extra tall bed rails , as well as wooden bed rails for toddlers which fold down giving you easy access to the bed. To prevent the risk of strangulation it is essential to ensure that when the bed guard is fitted correctly into position; there must be a gap of at least 25 cm (10 inch) between each end of the bed and the corresponding end of the bed guard When choosing these toddler bed guards, we considered and compared protection, comfort, ease of assembly, convenience and portability.

There are many different kinds of accessories that can make your child even more comfortable sleeping in his or her own bed. The accessories both increase safety and brighten up the child’s room. Place the bed guard half-way down the bed so that it sits in the middle. This guarantees the safest place, as it prevents your toddler from rolling out whilst sleeping at either end of the bed. Don't cover the bed guard in fabrics or clothing. This could make the bed guard dangerous, as it could prevent your child from being able to breathe when against the guard. Always make sure that the bed guard is completely breathable, and there's nothing preventing air from getting in and out.

All Safetots wooden bed rails are simple to install and can be easily removed when you want to change the bed sheets. The wooden base simply slides beneath the mattress and is held upright by secure, child-safe hinges.Bedguards are not suitable for waterbeds for obvious reasons or camping beds where there is only a canvas sleeping surface attached to a metal frame. Nor is it safe to use them on the upper level of a bunk bed as a fall from this height is life threatening. Safetots also recommend against using bedguards on the lower bunk bed level. Many children find bunk beds the indoor equivalent of a climbing frame and a serious accident may occur should a child use the rail as a foothold or spring board when climbing on and off the top bunk. Play of this nature may also compromise the stability of the fixings or fatigue the components making it unsafe for its purpose. As tempting as it may be to tie teddies and similar to the bedrail to create a sleepy environment, these pose strangulation and entrapment dangers, and nothing should ever be attached to the bedguard that is not part of the fittings.
