About this deal

I was very dubious about the book and still found it rather disappointing. Especially with how the Deana-dhe were presented in the Academy of Stardom series.

Alas, the final book in this dark, suspenseful, RH duet has come. Following that major cliffhanger of book one, the story started with The Deana-dhe working together with their arch nemesis, The Masks. This time, they have to set aside their differences if they wanted to have a great chance of rescuing Cyn from The Skull Brotherhood's clutches. And oh man, did the leader of this gang made me so darn stabby. I pretty much love anything this author writes. She really takes the time to delve into her characters, in to this shared world so many are interconnected with. I love all the cameos/mentions, it must be exhausting trying to keep all of the characters and timeline in mind when writing new romances in the world. Kudos to her! Given how important this part of the story was, it had me expecting a lot more than what was delivered. Having ultimately left me a little unsatisfied. Cyn is easy to root for, filled with quiet strength. Everyone underestimates the mute girl, and she uses that to her advantage. I enjoyed the power play between them. The second issue I had with this book is a death that happens in the middle, of Faith, Cyn’s new friend who she meets during her time kidnapped by the Skull Brotherhood. Her death feels needlessly tragic and traumatic, like Tragedy Porn just for the sake of it. An author’s note at the end explains that she didn’t plan to kill Faith, but it just happened, and she’s justifying it by saying that sometimes in life, good people die. We all know that! Dark romance readers aren’t looking for extreme realism in these stories! We also don’t need a lesson about how life works!I didn't expect the way that this story would go and I admit that what Cyn and Faith went through on the hands of The Skull Brotherhood was just tragic at best. And again, it made me stabby just thinking about Soren's character. I rooted for them to push through and cried for them at the end. Definitely another favourite here from Bea. The way the characters lives weave into the same world always gets me. I'm looking forward to seeing where Curses and Cures leads us. Seeing as he was my favourite it had me wishing their would’ve been a few more chapters from him, not only because he didn’t see to get as many as the others.

Cyn has been mute ever since she saw her mom’s murder as a kid. She’s also got a nearly supernatural ability to use plants to make natural remedies and substances. This book has alternating chapters in the past and present, similar to Freestyle. Jumping between past and present doesn't always work, but it's done well, here. Bea did a good job with the first part to the duet series in not only bringing the characters to life, given all that we learn about each of them. Courtesy of their individual POV chapters.

Additionally, the resale market for diamonds can be challenging. Unlike other luxury items such as designer handbags or watches, diamonds are not as easily resold. The demand for diamonds can fluctuate, and finding a buyer who is willing to pay a fair price for your diamond can be difficult. This can result in a loss of value when trying to sell your diamond, further decreasing the potential financial return on your investment.

The detail into Cyn's healing talents is brilliant. I really enjoy her as a character she has a different vibe from Bea's previous FMC's. You never feel like you're reading the same character with her stories. Also, Cyn being catatonic for a while after Faith's death didn’t ring true. Sure, that happens to some people, in life. But Cyn is so mentally strong, it didn’t feel like a fitting choice for her character. It’s also so extreme. A character being catatonic is boring in fiction. I think there could have been a more interesting way to show Cyn reacting to her ordeal. I'm not convinced this was the best possible storytelling choice. The Deana-dhe deal in favors, and Cyn owns them. And that’s how she ends up in their secluded island, developing a new potent drug for them. Narration was good again. Nothing more to say, same small criticisms but the emotion in this one was more intense than the others. With the different baddies and the aftermath of their chaos and destruction, the confrontation with new characters, the deaths, etc. So an emotional rollercoaster, but the narrators did a fab job bringing the characters to life in my head while I listened, I felt like I was in the studio, their home, Pen’s old family home, the bar, etc. The narration just helped prove this could be an incredible TV show and how the readers would eat every word up haha. I thought book 2 was full of emotion, tension, heartbreak, humor, and everything you want in a book. I liked book 1 but I liked book 2 even more. I think this one showed the brutality from outside the harem more and the group coming together to save Cyn, even with their sworn enemies as their allies, it was just a beautiful story with how it unfolded. Book 1 focused on how the guys tortured and bullied Cyn when they were kids, how they ended up the way they did at the end of the Masks and the Dancer, but this one gave us more depth of who they are now, how they overcome deplorable situations, and how they become a cohesive and strengthened unit, family by the end. And again loved all the cameos!! There was always a change between the present and the past and that was done by having a chapter in the present and then immediately having one in the past. I myself had a lot of trouble with that at the beginning because I was more interested in the present, and didn't find the chapters in the past interesting. However, the chapters in the past are necessary to understand the storyline.

Bea Paige knows how to get you addicted… I’m hooked for sure. What a story!! I need my next fix!? 🤣 The Deana-dhe have intrigued me since they were first mentioned in the world of Bea Paige. I continue to be in awe of this rich world she has created. Each story exists within this shared world but is standalone, although characters occasionally cross over. The reputation of the Deana-dhe is one of mysticism and mystery mixed with lethality. I loved the idea of these enigmatic men. They weren't what I was expecting. I knew they were lethal but I wasn't prepared for their cruelty. They enjoyed hurting Cyn because they could. I struggled with this. I would have preferred more visions, less spite. One thing to add is just like with Their Obsessionduet, Bea had me falling hard for one in particular that being Lorcan.
