About this deal

An array of players from trade and publishing gathered at The Delaunay in London on March 9th 2023 to celebrate Lynda La Plante’s 80th birthday and toast the announcement of her dazzling new memoir. And then we have the crime - or crimes. The dual thread of Middleton and Ridley. And apart from saying that both are well plotted and executed and kept me on the edge of my seat, I'm saying no more about either. Oh, apart from bot came to very satisfying conclusions.

For those readers looking to get into novels by Lynda La Plante, this section will help with that. It will go over the novels “Above Suspicion”, “The Red Dahlia”, and “Clean Cut”. Clean Cut: This is the third novel in the “Anna Travis” series and was released in the year 2007. James Langton is hunting some illegal immigrants who killed a young prostitute; he is ruthless in his search for them. One of the immigrants almost kills him, and Anna bears most of the frustrations he has and helps get his wounds healing. All the while, she puts her own career, not to mention life, on hold for him.Despite the above and I’m sure they’re just my personal gripes rather than other readers, both cases are really interesting and immersive. I especially like the Ridley storyline which has a topical flavour to it and I enjoy trying to figure out what’s going on. The Middleton case becomes more and more compelling and takes a disturbingly dark turn and discerning the truth from the multitude of lies is a perplexing puzzle. The portrayal of Middleton and Amanda are very good and trying to figure them out, especially the latter is a fascinating element. There are plenty of good twists in both storylines to keep you reading on. There’s an intensity in the Middleton plot strand especially towards the end when you really feel the tension. Over the years I have read a variety of Lynda La Plante’s crime novels and know that she prides herself on accurate portrayals of police procedures. She never disappoints. Why was Martin Boon so adamant that David Caplan shouldn't install a new set of gates when they wouldn't encroach on his own property?

My thanks to Bonnier Books U.K. Zaffre for an eARC via NetGalley of ‘Pure Evil’ by Lynda La Plante. A compelling, clever plot with a brilliant cast of diverse characters. Utterly riveting' - RACHEL ABBOTT, million-selling author of ONLY THE INNOCENT It’s concerning how they barely mention the fact that it’s riddled with rape or perhaps statutory rape of minors. It only focuses on missing girls and murders. Then a character decides to celebrate their pregnancy by pouring glasses of wine for the happy expecting couple??? This led to her being a sought after writer and would make her debut in crime fiction writing with “The Legacy” which was released in 1987. From the year 1979 until the year 1996, she was married to Richard La Plante (who is a musician); the marriage ended with the couple getting divorced, after they were married for seventeen years. The “Anna Travis” series was made into a series, that La Plante wrote and produced. Ciaran Hinds and Kelly Reilly starred. BEST LYNDA LA PLANTE BOOKS It read like the work of an amateur. There was no flow. It felt like an annoying coworker giving you a play by play of their indecisive internal monologue. Zaffre, LaPlante’s fiction publisher, will publish the memoir of the legendary Queen of Crime Drama in autumn 2024.
