About this deal

Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying a live scene and white square taking up 60% of the screen (measured in Nits) I should also mention that the BU8000 came with a slight panel defect with a green strip running vertically down the screen that would appear every now again, mainly when streaming content. Sound Quality Compare the UE65BU8000 with, say, Samsung’s QN90B Neo QLED and there’s an obvious and predictable gulf in quality. But the former is pitched to a more affordable market, and judged on its own merits, it offers a decent viewing experience. But its HDR performance left me wanting for a more expressive picture.

QD-OLED, which is (broadly speaking) designed to blend the best qualities of both OLED and QLED, arrived in 2022 via the Samsung S95B and this Sony A95K. On the plus side, the BU8500 does support 4K at 50Hz, along with HDR10, HDR10+ and HGiG. It also includes ALLM (automatic low latency mode), which detects a console and selects the Game mode, and as with most Samsung TVs, this produces an incredibly low input lag of 10ms. The Samsung BU8500 is impressively slim, but this does limit what its speakers can do. (Image credit: Future) Samsung BU8500 review: Sound quality The panel is only a 50Hz one, so there’s no support for 4K/120Hz gaming. Nor can any of the UE43BU8000’s three HDMI ports handle VRR, leaving ALLM as the only cutting-edge gaming feature on offer. Sadly, the kind of content material the system sometimes promotes tends to be of a minimum of area of interest curiosity, and navigating by the menus and between the Good interface and the TV setup menus may be frustratingly unintuitive. The excellent news is that apart from not supporting Freeview Play, the UE43BU8000’s sensible system is extraordinarily wealthy in apps and streaming video content material. The entire hottest streaming companies can be found and correct (together with particular person seize apps of UK terrestrial TV companies often accessible within the Freeview Play app) and all are 4K and high dynamic range (HDR) the place a service supplier strikes them.

Ultra slim TVs usually have their innards in a separate media box. Not so with the Samsung UE40B8000. Most are side-facing – which helps with routing cables – but an HDMI port and digital optical out are rear-facing, so if you want to connect a third source, you may need one of those right-angled HDMI connectors. This question is pretty much moot now, as the vast majority of TVs are now 4K. It's actually rather hard to find Full HD (1080p) models, even at relatively small sizes. Dolby Digital Plus, Multiroom link, Audio Bluetooth, Dolby MS12, Audio Pre-selection Descriptor, Adaptive Sound

It almost goes without saying that there’s little by way of low-frequency presence here, but even if you decide to find out what those 20 watts are capable of the AU7100 remains a composed listen. The BU8500 supports HDR10, HLG and HDR10+, but not Dolby Vision. However, the absence of the latter has nothing to do with the TV’s mid-range status because none of Samsung’s models support the format. The HDR10+ performance was good in testing, and while not as prevalent as Dolby Vision, the format is used by Prime Video, some 4K Blu-rays, and now Apple TV+. Finally, you need to really consider sound, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t consider a TV that doesn’t sound good. Confused? That’s understandable, but the disappointing truth is that even the best-sounding TV is far behind a decent soundbar for audio quality, so we always recommend focusing on picture quality when buying a TV and budgeting for a dedicated sound system to go with it. We do know that’s not an option for everyone, though, so we do of course test a TV’s speakers as thoroughly as its screen. If the audio quality matters a lot to you, you’ll find all of the necessary info below. There’s also a TV in this list that’s serious about Dolby Atmos sound. What size TV should you buy? You can now buy 8K TVs from a number of brands, including Samsung, LG and Sony. It's arguably Samsung that has lead the way, and our favourite 8K TV so far is the excellent QE75QN900B.You also need to consider LG's 2023 TVs, which are now available. The C2's replacement, the C3, is only a slight upgrade, and it's priced higher than the C2 was at launch so is much more expensive than the discounted C2 models you'll currently find in shops. The new G3 is a big step up, particularly in terms of brightness, but it's also currently very expensive.
