About this deal

Tension and angst aplenty. When the shit hit the fan around the 75 percent mark, I started screaming at my Kindle. Knowing something was going to happen, but not how and when, about killed me. there wasn't much going on, plot-wise, bc we basically just followed wyn and danny (sometimes edin, wyn's friend) through different places while wyn would continue his task but i simply adored every interaction wyn and danny had—even if they weren't doing anything at all—that i still enjoyed this book, regardless. it did have a lot of telling > showing, which i'm personally not a fan of, and the ending felt abrupt that i literally thought, "that's it??" but, overall, i'm glad i finally decided to give this series a chance! can't wait to read the other books bc i already love this world lily mayne has created. Catch up with the original monster-human couple, Danny and Wyn, in their Wastes-style adventures; witness Moth and Wyn’s blossoming and potentially concerning friendship; find out all the new ways Edin has been frustrating Hunter (lovingly) since their story ended; and join Lor and Jugs in welcoming a new furry addition to their monster-world family.

But also, underneath, I think Orlith feels a little insecure, especially now that Wyn is forever off the market for any hook ups, and Orlith, who has great disdain for all humans, doesn't quite understand what makes Danny special. Although Danny is beautiful, he's still just a human. The narration was not great. Danny’s voice seems way to old and gruff for his character. And his southern accent just seemed to disappear sometimes. The narrator also has a pretty emotionless voice. Scenes full of anger, sadness, or sex all got read in basically the same tone of voice. I did eventually get used to Danny’s voice and it stopped bothering me so much.

But nothing happens right away, and Ruke waits for Jamie to say something before they become physical. The author does a fabulous job at ‘unveiling’ Wyn. We get to know him together with Danny (it’s his POV only) and I was totally captivated just as Danny. The mystery of Wyn’s face and the fact we don’t know for so long what it looks like added to the tension throughout. And once we get to know Wyn, it’s hard not to love the guy. Horns, hood and all!

how can i not give 5 stars to the pure serotonin that this book is? we go on the beautiful journey of how wyn and danny get their forever together. this was pure cuteness and had so many precious moments. I realise that I wouldn’t be able to bring myself to kill him, even for his own sake, but it doesn’t matter anyway. He’s already dying, and there’s nothing I can do to stop it. Not even when new visitors at our raider camp bring with them secrets about Seraph. Secrets the military has tried to hide.Just reading the blurb, I didn't think this book would be my cuppa. Post-apocalyptic world? Monsters? Violence? No, no, and more no. When he and hundreds of other shoulders are sent out to try to kill Wyn, the Soul Eater, it's a blood bath. Well, they're there to be lambs to the slaughter, used to try to distract Wyn so another unit could try to capture him. Underneath everything, this is a love story between Wyn and Danny - in other words a Soul Eating Monster (Wyn) and a 23 year old military young human man (Danny) who has no family left and kind of fell into the military as a last resort. This has the making of a truly wonderful story. But, for me, this is where it fell flat. anyways these two are joined, tethered and basically MARRIED now. the fact that they’ll be able to spend their entire lives together makes me deliriously happy.🥰

You want me, Danny?❞ Wyn asked. His distorted voice was intimately deep. Raspy. ❝You want my body? You want to get off?❞ But when I come across a bound and injured monster in an abandoned military base, I can’t leave him behind. His presence in our camp is causing tension, but I can’t bring myself to care when I get to see a different side to him—when he starts to show me who he is, beneath the pain and lingering trauma. But now Dad’s gone, and I’m alone. Completely alone. I don’t trust humans—not raiders, not the military, not all the people living in those big dirty coastal cities—so I find the most remote spot I can to settle down and live out the rest of my life on my own, just like my dad always taught me was safest. wyn being such a romantic??? who would have knew, only danny brings that out in him. i loved being in wyn's pov because we got his direct thoughts on how grateful he is that danny chose to be with him. and how he would never take advantage of their time together even when he knew they would have thousands of years together now. Danny was mostly meh for me, though - the only thing i liked about him was that he fell in love with Wyn.

And, of course, his self-consciousness, when compared to the other monsters we meet later in this series, slots right in here. They’ve not been travelling between worlds for twelve thousand years. They’ve been sheltered, as much as they could be, from the cruelty humans can cause. It’s interesting to note that the only other non-human as self-conscious of his appearance as Wyn is Moth, who has also been subjected to that same type of cruelty – albeit from humans and monsters both. Revisit the Monstrous couples from the first seven novels of the series in this collection of sixteen short stories. Plus, meet a new Monstrous couple in a brand new 20k-word novella, Ruke. Yeap. Danny and Wyn certainly know how to burn the sheets! – once they get there. And their journey is wonderfully described, scorching, sensuous and full of feels! MOTH AND THE SOUL EATER HAVE A BONDING EXPERIENCE was a great short with Moth fanboying over the Soul Eater and Wyn being bloodthirsty but also surprisingly sweet. I loved how precious Moth was in this with his admiration and hero worship of Wyn; he wants to impress him so badly. Definitely a cute moment.
