About this deal

Still, after I read the ending my mind was reeling and my feelings were so mixed that I had a tough time coming to terms with everything that was revealed. There were so many things I felt conflicted about and even now, after more than a week has passed, I still didn’t manage to sort out my feelings and I still don’t know what to do with them. Maybe I’ll have to get used to the idea that to think about Evelyn Hugo and her seven husbands will always make me feel conflicted and that there’s no such thing as making peace with an ending like that. The reason why I wrote this book despite not being queer or biracial is because, due to my work writing about straight white women, I have an audience. I continue to be handed a microphone. I have a book deal. And my feeling was that I could use that book deal, that immense privilege, to continue to write about people like myself or I could use it to write about people that often get pushed to the sidelines.

Early on in their meetings, Monique asks Evelyn about the love of her life, and while Evelyn's husbands and affairs made headlines time and time again, the novel unravels the tight spool of her life until this question is finally answered. This is genuinely one of the most remarkable novels I have ever read. It is a favorite of the year, it will be a favorite of all time. I am wholly enchanted by The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and I will never forget how much I adore this book.Harry’s loverand Monique’s father.James hidhis sexuality and his family didn’t know that he had relationships with men. Evelyn frames Jamesfor the car accident that ended his and Harry’s lives, though it was Harry’s fault. James adored his daughter and had a loving, companionable marriage with Monique’s mother. An aging starlet with seven marriages behind her generously offers the rights to her memoir to an inexperienced writer—at a heartbreaking cost.

but there were too many things i had issue with. and if i hadn't read all but one of TJR's previous works i might have been able to overlook it. but once i notice a pattern it tends to color my judgment of an author's work. Her love for Celia throughout the years truly made this wildly unbelievable story cinch for me. Honestly, her relationship with Celia In this book, we get the life of Hollywood star Evelyn Hugo narrated by the journalist Monique who works for a prestigious magazine. Evelyn Hugo never gave an exclusive interview to anyone throughout her career, so Monique has no choice but to accept because this could be huge for her career. Evelyn and she sit down and talk about Evelyn’s life as Monique takes notes and listens. But little did she know that meeting Evelyn would change her life forever. You see, it wasn’t a mere coincidence that Evelyn chooses Monique to write her autobiography, but I guess if you want to find out, you have to read the book. A chorus girl and an aspiring actor. Evelyn’s loving mother died when Evelyn was eleven, and Evelyn sought out acting to achieve the dream her mother couldn’t.She dominated the big screen for more than four decades. Every man wanted her and every woman wanted to be her. i really dont even know where to begin. its books like this which confirm my belief that fiction will always be better than nonfiction, because it would be impossible to find a biography that could paint the story of a womans life half as well as this did. this was extraordinary, in every sense of the word. just the depth of this book was spectacular. not to mention the diversity and representation and writing quality and complex characters. everything was just outstanding. The framing of the story reminded me a lot of The Thirteenth Tale. Like that book, in The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, a young woman - this time an ambitious journalist called Monique Grant - goes to interview an elderly woman. Unlike The Thirteenth Tale, this elderly woman happens to be one of the most famous actresses in the world. evelyn‘s story is so interesting & intriguing. i was reading this book all day long, unable to put it down and when i had to, all i thought about was when i could continue reading it. reading about her schemes and deceives.. just incredible. i was so invested, rooting for her and just fell in love with her like every other person in this book.
