The story about precious metals and how they will not avail their users and those that make idols from them (3 Enoch 5:7–14) Bəmidbar ( בְּמִדְבַּר, literally "In the desert [of]")— Numbers, from Ἀριθμοί ( Arithmoí, "Numbers")

Chapter 16 concerns the Day of Atonement (though that phrase appears first in 23:27). This is the only day on which the High Priest is to enter the holiest part of the sanctuary, the holy of holies. He is to sacrifice a bull for the sins of the priests, and a goat for the sins of the laypeople. The priest is to send a second goat into the desert to " Azazel", bearing the sins of the whole people. Azazel's identity is unknown, with some Christian tradition linking him to a fallen angel, older English Bible translations like the KJV translating it as "a scapegoat". [13]A)If his sacrifice be a burnt offering of the herd, he shall offer a male without blemish, presenting him of his own voluntary will at the door of the [ d]Tabernacle of the Congregation before the Lord. God sends a plague of locusts to Judge Israel, but his judgment on the surrounding nations is coming, too. Now the [ b]Lord called Moses, and spake unto him out of the Tabernacle of the Congregation, saying, A philosophical exploration of the meaning of life—with a surprisingly nihilistic tone for the Bible. The various ordinances contained in this book were all delivered in the space of a month (Compare Exodus 40:17 ; Numbers 1:1 ), the first month of the second year after the Exodus. It is the third book of Moses.

The Book of Job is This book explores the case of one who is an exceptionally righteous man but still suffers greatly. The words of Job’s friends depict the different ways that people make sense of suffering. In Hebrew, the five books of the Torah are identified by the incipits in each book; [23] and the common English names for the books are derived from the Greek Septuagint [ citation needed] and reflect the essential theme of each book: The Book of Lamentations is The entire book is poetic. The laments vividly describe how terrible the destruction of Jerusalem was. But the author also understood clearly that the Babylonians were merely human agents of divine judgment; it was God Himself who had destroyed the city and the Temple.Book Summary: The purpose of the book of Micah talks about the warning of judgment that is to come to the northern and southern kingdoms. The main themes running through 3 Enoch are the ascension of Enoch into Heaven and his transformation into the angel Metatron. The New Testament, particularly the Epistle to the Hebrews, uses ideas and images from Leviticus to describe Christ as the high priest who offers his own blood as a sin offering. [38] Therefore, Christians do not make animal offerings either, because as Gordon Wenham summarized: "With the death of Christ the only sufficient 'burnt offering' was offered once and for all, and therefore the animal sacrifices which foreshadowed Christ's sacrifice were made obsolete." [45] The majority of scholars have concluded that the Pentateuch received its final form during the Persian period (538–332BC). [17] Nevertheless, Leviticus had a long period of growth before reaching that form. [18]

No book contains more of the very words of God. He is almost throughout the whole of it the direct speaker. This book is a prophecy of things to come, a shadow whereof the substance is Christ and his kingdom. The principles on which it is to be interpreted are laid down in the Epistle to the Hebrews. It contains in its complicated ceremonial the gospel of the grace of God. Israel enters a cycle of turning from God, falling captive to oppressive nations, calling out to God, and being rescued by leaders God sends their way (called “judges”).The English name Leviticus comes from the Latin Leviticus, which is in turn from the Ancient Greek: Λευιτικόν [3] ( Leuitikon), referring to the priestly tribe of the Israelites, " Levi". The Greek expression is in turn a variant of the rabbinic Hebrew torat kohanim, [4] "law of priests", as many of its laws relate to priests. [5] The people have abandoned the work of restoring God’s temple in Jerusalem, and so Haggai takes them to task. Traditionally, the words of the Torah are written on a scroll by a scribe ( sofer) in Hebrew. A Torah portion is read publicly at least once every three days in the presence of a congregation. [9] Reading the Torah publicly is one of the bases of Jewish communal life. The Torah is also considered a sacred book outside Judaism; in Samaritanism, the Samaritan Pentateuch is a text of the Torah written in the Samaritan script and used as sacred scripture by the Samaritans; the Torah is also common among all the different versions of the Christian Old Testament; in Islam, the " Tawrat" ( Arabic: توراة‎) is the Arabic name for the Torah within its context as an Islamic holy book believed by Muslims to have been given by God to the prophets and messengers amongst the Children of Israel. [10] Meaning and names [ edit ]

The Book of Proverbs is Proverbs, a collection of short sayings and sermons from various authors. This book commends honorable living to enjoy God’s blessings. It conveys the idea that God favors those whose lives are marked by integrity rather than by falsehood, thus inculcating consistent, godly behavior. The kingdom of Israel has a time of peace and prosperity under King Solomon, but afterward splits, and the two lines of kings turn away from God.

Here’s a snapshot of every book of the Bible

Lucian of Antioch made a number of changes to his version of the Septuagint, resulting in variant readings. Lucianic versions became the standard in Syria, Asia Minor, and Constantinople, with the version of 3 Maccanees in the Syriac Peshitta notably Lucianic in character, as well as being a rather free translation that included several expansions. There also exists also a paraphrastic Armenian version that dates to 400–600 AD. [9] Robert Hanhart published a critical edition of the Greek text in 1960, with a second edition in 1980. [14] News flash: the Bible is huge: about 611,000 words long, all divvied up across 66 smaller documents called the “books” of the Bible.
