About this deal

What am i missing? any help is appreciated as we cant go another Winter with the kitchen being so cold again I have plumbed in the new radiator and the flow is now much more even, as expected. The supplier has confirmed a slight change of design.

The two twelve column radiators heat the first six column nearest the flow and eventually heat up across the rest apart the the final quarter. The sixteen column radiator only heats up the eight columns farthest from the flow inlet. However, if your boiler was installed more than 10 years ago, you may want to consider a new boiler, which will iron out the diverter valve problems as well as run much more efficiently and help to keep those energy bills down. Your gas safe engineer can advise you on the best products and arrange the new replacement boiler installation. vertical rads (Ximax Fortuna) installed in extension a couple of years ago = 2 cold winters in this room, the roads take ages to heat up and the columns heat randomly and unevenly. Small pin-hole leaks in the system – this will often mean you are regularly topping up your boiler pressure. This is an online marketplace for plumbing work and services where you can receive quotes from local heating engineers for installation of your new radiator.Vertical radiators do have a flow direction. The direction that they follow is straight through the bottom and out of the other side. The water inside the radiator will take the path of least resistance. The baffle inside the radiator acts as a barrier and this makes the water flow upwards. Switch your central heating off and allow it to cool down for a while – the last thing you need is a trip to A&E because you’ve scalded yourself with hot, sludge-ridden radiator water. The likelihood that you’ll be able to do a straight swap from a horizontal radiator to a vertical one is unlikely due to the layout of the existing pipes and the differing dimensions between a vertical and horizontal radiator. However, changing any radiator should really be done by a professional plumber and it will be a fairly easy and straightforward job for them to complete.

Designer radiators can make a huge statement in your home and become a prominent feature in the rooms of your home, in addition to the fact they are a new component to your home. In turn, this can add value if you decide to sell your property. Due to them saving space, it also helps buyers the ability to picturise the house as their own and how they’d decorate each room. There’s a false claim that vertical radiators take longer to heat up. However the truth is that vertical radiators have an equal BTU heat output to horizontal radiators. Most people have been lead to believe that all the heat escapes from the top of them. Your heating engineer should ensure the performance of the radiator before leaving your home and therefore testing the radiator after the installation process. Begin by ensuring that your central heating system is switched on and verify that the thermostat is correctly set.

Company Reviews

A diverter valve is an essential part of your heating system as it opens and closes to let hot water travel into your radiators, taps and showers. It only works in a combi-boiler – a system where your water heater and central heating boiler is in one – when water is heated ‘on demand’. So, what do I do, drain the rads and look through top and bottom to confirm no baffle, then fit the baffles? If so which side should I fit the baffles on, return? Worried if there on the flow water would run in, up across and out causing similar issues?

Do you have a Power of Attorney? MoneySavingExpert.com founder Martin Lewis explains how this crucial protection works, why it's more important than a will, and how to get one in the latest episode of ITV's The Martin Lewis Money Show Live. A simple way to do this is by working your way from your boiler to the first radiator in the system. If this radiator is heating up fine, you know the problem lies elsewhere, so move on. Please help, I can bear the thought of another cold winter!! Heating was on today for an hour and the rest of the house warmed nicely but this room barely rose .2 degrees! Replacing an older radiator with a column radiator can be extremely beneficial and efficiently warm up your home, saving you money in the long run. We moved into a new house last summer and when it came to winter we realised that the Kitchen rad had problems. Its the largest radiator in our system (1.8 mtr vertical double) and takes at least 1.5 hours to get warm, and then its only warm with spots/areas which are colder/warmer etc. What type of rads have you fitted? It is very unlikely they have dedicated 'sides' and should be fitable either way around.

I am in the process of having a GSHP installed, hopefully next week. As part of this change from an oil combo boiler to GSHP, the radiators had to be changed for higher out ones to give an oversize factor of 2.4 for 50C flow temperature. This does leave a puzzle as to whether the radiators were tested to BSEN442, as advertised, with or without baffles present, and that standard requires a top bottom same end connection. It may even be the case that you hear the air banging around your pipeworkfrom time-to-time and it can often be tough to diagnose just how it got there and why. Simply put, a diverter valve works by redirecting the water in the combi boiler to respond to your hot water requirements, whether you have just turned on the shower or switched on a radiator. The system has been bled repeatedly and balanced. I have also tried running the heating with only the sixteen column radiator turned on, but it still won't heat up all the columns. One of the areas which i cannot work out is regarding the pump pictured above - this is not plumbed into the heating circuit, only the hot water. If this is correct then the only central heating pump is the one located in the boiler - what are the circumstances that would mean an additional pump is also required? (like the above but plumbed into the heating circuit). I have tried to annotate the original photo which shows the flows. If you’re comfortable with basic DIY, removing sludge from one radiator is a pretty simple (though sometimes messy) job. When it comes to installing your vertical radiator, the general rule is that it should be mounted 150mm above the skirting in the room. Your floorboards can have an influence over this, however, as it can determine where it is fitted. Ditto with these valves - the TRVs are bi-directional so can be fitted to either end, flow or return.
