About this deal

I know this review might not be the most helpful in the world, but it's true what everyone says about We Were Liars. You should absolutely go in blind, with no expectations and let this book take your feels as it sees fit. If you are a fan of psychological thrillers like Stephanie Kuehn's Charm and Strange or Complicit, than this one may be up your alley. I'll be here to hold you when you're finish.

There's one part I never did figure out. Cady the main character keeps talking about bleeding..Did she cut or was that just supposed to be a metaphor or some crap? I will say this, however: We Were Liars is a haunting portrayal of a group of teenagers who have formed a sacred bond; each one striving to be free and longing for acceptance. They consider love more important than social and economic stature, and are displeased with the prejudices surrounding their world. E. Lockhart Press Reviews

a b Corbett, Sue (June 14, 2014). "Turning to Tumblr for Book Promotion and Secret Keeping". Publishers Weekly . Retrieved June 8, 2015. so im aware my rating is gonna be a little bias bcos it has so much adolescent nostalgia behind it. so again, keep that in mind if you’re wondering if you should give this ago. The We Were Liars setting takes place on a private island off the coast of Massachusetts, where the Sinclair family spends their summers together every year. Cadence's family is consumed by their own drama, and the members rarely see other people around. The plot focuses on the theme of the consequences of one's mistakes and is centered only on the wealthy and seemingly perfect Sinclair family. Although I found this story entirely unique, if I had to compare, I’d say its structure reminds me a bit of On the Jellicoe Road. Its haunting tone, as well.

This book is the prequel to We Were Liars and contains spoilers. I highly recommend reading We Were Liars before the prequel. HOWEVER, THIS REVIEW WILL AVOID ALL SPOILERS.*** So yeah, I just decided to read it and hoped it would be good and looking at it in retrospective this actually was the best decision I could have made! ;-P It is true I do not suffer fools.Poor little Cadence Sinclair is wealthy. She is loved. She is one of the Sinclairs, a good-looking "old-money Democrat" family, think the Kennedys, without the political aspirations. They have names like Liberty, Taft, and Tipper. They go to Ivy League schools. They have trust funds. They have sired a generation of children, the leader of which is Cadence. Cadence and her crew call themselves "The Liars." The Liars are composed of her cousins Mirren, Johnny, and the outcast "Healthcliff," Indian love interest, Gat. In the summer Carrie is 17, her cousin Yardley comes to stay - brining her boyfriend and two of his mates. Things are about to change in a big way. Bess Sinclair Sheffield – Mother to Mirren, Liberty, Bonnie, and Taft, the youngest Sinclair daughter

I love this book. I really do. I didn't expect to, but then I just fell in love with it and now it's an obsession. Somehow Beechwood Island just keeps feeling more alluring to me. You’d think after reading these two books and knowing the history of it all I’d be wanting to run a million miles… but why does a summer holiday here sound so fun? Why?! It gives you all of those fun summer vacation vibes… yet with all of the underlying feeling in your stomach that something is seriously not right. this prequel was just a wonderful trip down memory lane for me. i think some people are gonna adore it (like me, seriously cried way too much lol), while others are just gonna roll their eyes and think it’s kinda basic. i think most people will be able to discern from their feelings of We Were Liars if this will be for them. Penelope (Penny) Sinclair Easton: In We Were Liars, she is Cadence's mother and Harris' youngest child who lives with her family after separation from her husband. Quite a few secrets come out which I enjoyed, and it all followed through well. There wasn’t anything that didn’t make sense - at least to me anyway.

you really do have to suspend your disbelief when it comes to a handful of scenarios in this book. i guess the first one is the same too. i feel like if you loved the original book, then i can see you loving this... but if you didn’t :/ maybe skip this. June of the summer I was 15, my father ran off with some woman he loved more than us." Cadence Sinclair, the teenage narrator of We Were Liars, initially seems very familiar: quirky, perky, sentimental and charming, blessed with an unusual name and a neat turn of phrase, surely she's going to lead us on a tale of unrequited love studded with witty one-liners. And indeed she does, but her story soon descends into much murkier waters, eyeing its teenage protagonist with a twisted smile and a tragic sense of the pain wrought by selfish, self-absorbed adolescents. We Were Liars focuses on the theme of consequences of one's mistakes. It is centered on the wealthy, seemingly perfect Sinclair family, who spend every summer sitting gathered on their private island. However, not every summer is the same—when something happens to Cadence during the summer of her fifteenth year, the four "Liars" (Cadence, Johnny, Gat and Mirren) re-emerge two years later to prompt Cadence to remember the incident. Gat hits his fist into his palm. “Ginny is the housekeeper. Paulo is the gardener. You don’t know their names and they’ve worked here summer after summer. That’s part of my point.” There's this: He was contemplation and enthusiasm. Ambition and strong coffee. I could have looked at him forever.and this: The universe was good because he was in it. AND THIS! I wanted to touch him like he was a bunny, a kitten, something so special and soft your fingertips can’t leave it alone. Gag. Her talking about love nearly made me put the book down.
