This machine was pretty good about 20 years ago when it was designed. The sound quality was great at that time. But this does not applies as of today, unfortunately. The SR-16 features 50 preset patterns that were actually played in by top studio drummers, not just programmed and quantized. You'll find enough built-in rhythmic variations (with A, B and two Fill sections) for composing complete arrangements, and you can create and save your own customized patterns and songs. It does remembers the patterns in place and you cannot ran out of memory as you can always dump the MIDI data out of the device. It is very easy to handle and all the interface is very intuitive. You can set the tempo with the pattern switch pedal just by tapping it. You can predict when your fills ends up between the pattern switching.
There are 50 preset rhythmic patterns that can be adjusted and tweaked. Plus each preset has A and B variations, in addition to fill sections; which is perfect for composing arrangements. The SR-16 also provides complete MIDI implementation that enables you to sequence or trigger the unit from an external MIDI sequencer or DAW. All in all, this seems like a nice bunch of sounds. Keep in mind that all of them can be played dry or with digital reverb, which has been added afterward. Also, if you look at the board, you will notice A and B buttons for rhythm variations, as well as two Fill groups. With over 200 drum and percussion sounds, the SR-16 offers a wide variety of options for creating different styles and genres of music.
