About this deal

Examples of ambition look different for each person, as everyone’s marker for “daunting yet fulfilling” is unique. But no matter the ambition examples you resonate with, these goals will help you live a more meaningful and fulfilling life. Why is ambition important? We are in a better place than we were a generation ago, but we have not arrived at utopia. Many of the clubbiest realms of beauty still don’t include larger women, disabled ones, or senior citizens. Supporting and providing positive professional planning advice to our local authority partners throughout their Local Plan preparation and development management roles.

Moss was disruptive to the beauty system, but she was still well within the industry’s comfort zone of defining beauty as a white, European conceit. So too were the youthquake models of the 1960s such as Twiggy, who had the gangly, curveless physique of a 12-year-old boy. The 1970s brought Lauren Hutton, who stirred scandal simply because she had a gap between her teeth. In the past decade, beauty has moved resolutely forward into territory that was once deemed niche. Nonbinary and transgender are part of the mainstream beauty narrative. As the rights of LGBTQ individuals have been codified in the courts, so have the aesthetics particular to them been absorbed into the beauty dialogue. Transgender models walk the runways and appear in advertising campaigns. They are hailed on the red carpet for their glamour and good taste but also for their physical characteristics. Their bodies are celebrated as aspirational. I think I was most surprised at the kind of devotion that a lot of people had. Like, even some of the people that were most critical of Glossier, who had worked there and it hadn’t gone well, or retail employees who felt like they were getting short shrift, those were often the people that were the biggest fans of Glossier and who were still really rooting for them in this very beautiful and sincere way. It really helped underscore this idea that you could have two differing feelings and notions about a place and a person and a brand. That was just very human, and especially with a company like Glossier that nurtured fandom so much, it’s hard to let go of that feeling.Still, I expected more. As another reviewer mentioned, this is not a bombshell exposé at all. Very few secrets are divulged, and much of the information will be old news to long-time fans of the brand. They might get a little thrill from all the name drops, though. (Eva Alt! Annie Kreighbaum!)

Weiss would make friendly conversation with an employee in the office then ask for a progress update on a project. The audacity! hectares of wildlife-rich habitat outside of SSSIs will be created or restored, which is twice the size of Cornwall 36,000 hectares of woodland, which is a little smaller than the Isle of Wight, will have been planted or allowed to regenerate. Asmita Dubey, chief digital and marketing officer, and Camille Kroely, chief metaverse and Web3 officer at L’Oréal Group, talk about the actions that L’Oréal has taken with regard to the metaverse and how these fit with the company’s mission and broader digital transformation agenda. They also share what they have learnt about changes in user and creator behavior, and how they see the future of beauty evolving. As someone who is caught between Gen X and Millennial, I have bought an item or two from Glossier but wasn’t aware of Emily Weiss or the Glossier fandom. I always enjoy stories about successful women bosses and was excited to read this book when it was published.

How do you ensure that the L’Oréal Group brands maintain their brand DNA when they’re showing up in these new ways in virtual experiences?

Being passionate: Life’s too short to live without pursuing your passions, whether that’s seeking an American English literature degree or performing in plays like Macbeth. Ambitious people work toward their goals in a passionate and purposeful way. I’m not sure why I read this book when I’m more of an Urban Decay kinda gal makeup- and vibe-wise, a bit gothy and with absolutely zero interest in whatever effortless, is she or isn’t she, no makeup-makeup look Glossier was ever peddling. Hell, I prefer “effortful and she definitely is” - I don’t even believe in blending eyeliner, and my ideal mascara would probably be named something like Perverted Tarantula. But anywho, I read it because I love a business case study and especially one starring a woman in business, hell yes, let’s go for it! I’ll sit with it in the cafeteria and be its cool punk friend.
