About this deal

Currently, Williams & Humbert is the largest winery in Europe, and its distributor, Sovisur, distributes all its products together with wines from other denominations such as Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Rueda or Rías Baixas. The use of Canasta casks gives Bunnahabhain the best of both worlds with layers of spicy Oloroso and rich and sweet Pedro Ximenez.

The Dragon Series also gives us great confidence and excitement upon which to build and bring to life more concepts with Bladnoch in the future”. Canasta Cream is a generoso wine produced by Bodegas Williams & Humbert in Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz) within D.O. Jerez-Xérès-Sherry. Scotch whiskies are made from malted barley and are aged for no less than three years. To be a true Scotch malt, they must be distilled in Scotland, like our very own Dundonald Links whisky. Now that you have read about the different types of sherry, learn more about it with our resources: Created by distilling fermented grains, the Scottish have been distilling whisky since the 12 th century and this rich liquor soon became a firm favourite amongst royalty. In the 18 th century a tax was imposed on alcohol production in Scotland, leading to many distilleries looking for creative ways to avoid detection. This led to much of the production taking place at night and led to the term ‘moonshine.’

Next up is another unpeated release that was distilled on the 28th October 1998 and filled into American Oak casks before being transferred to first-fill Manzanilla sherry casks on the 25th May 2016 to finish. Nose On the palate, the aroma is complemented by the taste of sweet and tangy apricots, with a hint of nutmeg that adds depth and complexity. First of all, the most common types of sweet sherry are typically referred to as “creams”. Despite the misleading name, cream sherries don’t contain any dairy products but are a blend of naturally sweet sherries and the varieties listed above. The Bunnahabhain distillery is known for its connection to the sea, as the distillery is situated in a remote area on the Islay coast. The whisky contains the aroma and flavour of the salty sea air from where it is aged, and there is also a recognisable tone from the sherry cask. Terroir-forward Kilchoman Distillery would be releasing a vatting of approximately 1160 bottles made blended from two bourbon barrels and one sherry butt. The spirit is made from 100% Islay barley grown, malted and distilled at Kilchoman Distillery in 2011 and 2012.The palate reveals flavours of figs, burnt reduced raisins, prune juice, and dark chocolate. There's a fair amount of ginger and chili spice that lingers on the palate, providing a long finish even after the sweetness dissipates. Unfortunately, it has a disappointing, somewhat thin mouthfeel. Additionally, it feels a bit too hot for our liking, and the nose and palate don't align perfectly, with a stronger punch of sherry on the palate than on the nose. Nose (with water) Scotland’s oldest privately-owned whisky distillery, Bladnoch, has unveiled a collection of five single malts that celebrate the ‘natural unpredictability’ of whisky making. The Dragon Series draws its inspiration from a fractional curve in mathematics Bunnahabhain whisky was founded in 1881 and today is the only distillery on the island of Islay to use pure spring water in its production process. The water is drawn from the Margadale River and avoids being changed by the plentiful peat that is in the area. While not all Bunnahabhain whiskies are unpeated, their signature blend is an unpeated whisky with much lighter tones. For those looking for a smokier formula, try the Bunnahabhain Moine whisky, which contains Islay peat. Canasta’s nose is quite intense, especially if you leave it to sit in the glass for a while. You’re looking at some primary notes of figs and raisins. Meanwhile, it reveals secondary and tertiary notes of walnuts and cinnamon. However, these are quite faint and you’ll mostly detect the dried fruits. This Limited Edition whisky was distilled on the 28th October 1998 and filled into American Oak casks before being transferred to first-fill Manzanilla sherry casks on the 25th May 2016 to finish.

Alongside its investment announcement, Bunnahabhain has revealed three new limited-edition single malts to be released in August/September. Sherry is best known as a dry fortified wine. Indeed, port tends to get the limelight where sweet fortified wines are concerned. You can also learn about it with our guides to port wine. It’s been released annually since then, with each year’s Cairdeas expression unique from the next. In a way, it’s tantamount to Ardbeg’s annual Committee Release bottling – it’s much more experimental and keeps fans salivating, wondering what’s to come next year. The whisky aims to capture numerous variables in the brand’s casks, such as oak species, growth environment and the technical aspects of toasting, charring, and seasoning. For this year's Cairdeas, it is made from 3/4 second-fill Madeira cask-finished liquid, with 1/4 from first-fill White Port casks.

These limited edition expressions are so highly sought after that hours-long queues have formed outside the Bowmore and Bunnahabhain Distilleries for instance, with many people camped out overnight to be the first in line to buy the Fèis Ìle edition bottles in the morning. N ose: it’s all on figs and raisins, with nice hints of dark chocolate and vanilla. Hints of Gianduja. Walnut cake. It also has the slightly peppery notes of a dry Oloroso and even a faint smoky note. It’s smooth and attractive, good start.A few drops of water bring out additional spice, specifically cinnamon. The Robinson summer fruit notes have transformed into dried mangoes and apricots. Additionally, there are hints of caramel and passion fruit. Personally, we found the nose more enjoyable before dilution. Palate (with water) With core releases going through to more limited and older whiskies, as well as plenty of top-tier drams to toast a celebration or a hole-in-one, such as Macallan M Decanter, Glenfarclas 30yo and Highland Park 40yo. We also wanted to use this opportunity to showcase some of the incredible new distilleries in Scotland, such as Nc’Nean, Lindores Abbey and Kingsbarns.
