As the Sovereign’s Company Colour is there at the very end of a reign, so it is at the outset; a physical representation of the Monarch’s deep connection with their principal Regiment of Guards, and a connection which runs deeper still with their own Company within it – a constant in the Guards’ direct service to the Crown. Ladies and gentlemen, it is the greatest possible privilege to be able to present a new Standard and Colours to you today in a unique Tri-Service event in preparation for our Coronation. It is some eighty-five years since a King’s Colour has been presented and, on such a special occasion, I particularly wanted to express my heartfelt appreciation to each and every one of you, as representatives from the three Services, for your loyal service over the course of her remarkable reign, to The late Queen who, I know, held you all in such high regard. This Medal is a symbol of the critical role our emergency services will play in this potentially once in a lifetime opportunity to honour our new King. However, it rightly also goes further and recognises not just those who are helping at the Coronation, but the heroes across our emergency services, such as the police, fire and rescue services, that go to work every day to protect and support us all.
