About this deal

This is a really enjoyable book because it has some funny bits, especially when Biscuit always talks and thinks about food! As well as winning many awards for her books, including the Children’s Book of the Year, Jacqueline is a former Children’s Laureate, and in 2008 she was appointed a Dame.

Tim can't wait to go on holiday - especially as he gets to bring his friend Biscuits along. But their trip unexpectedly becomes truly, terribly adventurous when an encounter with two local bully-boys threatens to disrupt the fun. Double Act won the prestigious Smarties Medal and the Children’s Book Award as well as being highly commended for the Carnegie Medal. The Story of Tracy Beaker won the 2002 Blue Peter People’s Choice Award. Jacqueline Wilson wrote her first novel when she was nine years old, and she has been writing ever since. She is now one of Britain's bestselling and most beloved children's authors. She has written over 100 books and is the creator of characters such as Tracy Beaker and Hetty Feather. More than forty million copies of her books have been sold. The plot was not particularly engaging. The illustrations of the boys’ diary entries are a fun way to introduce each chapter, but Biscuits’ character is completely one-dimensional; the focus being on his weight and the copious amounts of food that he consumes was very repetitive and cringeworthy. This is a book about a boy called Tim who goes on holiday with his best friend Biscuit. At the beginning of each chapter each boy writes a diary, and Biscuit's diary is about what he has eaten, as that is his favourite thing to do!

I read this one to my class of Year 3s (7-8 years old) and they really enjoyed it. Especially after I read them the first book on the series, Cliffhanger, they were super excited to find out more about Tim and Biscuits! I did feel like the first half of the book did drag on a little bit, with not much happening it was more for developing characters in my opinion. There is a comical feel to this book and although there are tense dramas you don't feel that the book is too silly, or that the book is forcing too much drama on you. Of course, Jacqueline has continued to use literary techniques and linguistic devices which can be useful for the classroom if you were using this book, however its silly enjoyable for people who are reading it out of sheer pleasure.in, so that the water was way up, lapping the skirts of the sandy slope. There was barely room to put down our towels and picnic. 'Oh rats rats rats' I said. 'I want to build my castle!' 'Don't say "rats" like that, dear. Now, never mind. You can sit down quietly with Biscuits and read your comics or do some writing in your holiday diaries,' said Mum. 'Never mind, Tim, we can all go for a swim,' said Dad. 'Never mind, Tim, we can maybe have our picnic now instead,' said Biscuits. 'But I wanted to build my castle.' I tried digging in the soft powdery sand of the slope but it was useless. It just slithered and slopped around and wouldn't stand firm at all. 'It's not fair.' 'Oh Tim, don't be such a baby,' said Dad. 'Stop making such a fuss about a silly sandcastle. Let's go for a swim.' 'Are you sure the sea is clean enough? You hear such horrible tales about pollution nowadays,' said Mum. 'It's clear as crystal. You come in too,' said Dad. 'Somebody's got to sit here and mind all the picnic things,' said Mum. 32
