About this deal

Each case only has one solution, but there are generally multiple ways to get there depending on which characters you show what evidence to and when. For that reason, it may be fun to attempt a case again a while after playing it the first time, to try and get a different experience.

I enjoy the cognitive aspects when it comes to deciding whom to ask about what evidence and digging for evident locate other suspects. The constant link between your journalism and active crime scenes is your uncle. He’s a detective and always seems to be knee-deep in shady criminals and other people’s bodily fluids. Anytime you see him, he’ll always be accompanied by some poor cadaver. What’s more, is that he always seems ignorant to what you see as a journalist – much of which is common sense! Chronicles of Crime is a great game and experience, one that is easy to play and rewards logical thinking. The game comes with plenty of cases and the promise of more through digital content. It is quite unlike most other games, the closest it resembles is the popular escape room games, but it is more than that. For those budding armchair detectives in your life this is a fantastic choice. To play with a lot of players (we were 10 players!) we pass around the phone during the time to look at the crime scene (there is unlimited times you can view a crime scene) and then after everybody has had a look - players say what they think the clues are in the crime scene. For actions, it's just a group vote on what action the group does. (go to a location, talk to a guy, etc.) The app adds dimensions to the game. It allows characters to behave realistically and have their own lives within the world. On a mechanical level, it also makes Chronicles of Crime effortless to play. The scanning works perfectly, and next steps are clearly indicated.Loading up the app for the first time takes you into a simple tutorial case, but don’t be fooled; subsequent cases up the ante and subtlety significantly. Cases will involve you being called to a scene which you can generally examine using the app. This can be done with the separate VR Module attached to your phone, or just through the phone's display. If you are playing with friends you will be frantically be shouting out all the things you see as they rifle through the clue cards to find something that might relate. We also pass the phone around and take turns reading. There are fun events that can happen while reading the text on the phone that really scared our group (for example: A phone suddenly ringing). It's just written words and there is no sound effect but our reader freaked out and said "Oh my God the phone's ringing!" - which sent everyone into a panic. This is what happens when you get a really good set of friends together willing to immerse themselves into the story.

When you are talking to a person, you can ask them questions by scanning items or people, and they will tell you what they know on the topic. It’s all very intuitive and easy to use. The protagonists in each instalment all belong to the same family, and certain characters and elements pop up across the series, making it a very satisfying experience to play through them all.In Chronicles of Crime (London Forensic), players will have five unique story-driven cases to solve plus a full tutorial to introduce you to the game. Each scenario is written by experienced authors to give you the most immersive experience while you solve both individual and series of connecting criminal cases! You move around the investigation by scanning the QR codes on locations, the characters there, and the pieces of evidence you want to ask them about. I’ve found that the technology aspect of Chronicles of Crime works quite well. We had no issues using the app to drive the game, and learning to use it was pretty intuitive. However, the VR crime scene was easily my favorite thing about the game. I loved standing up and panning around the scene trying to find anything that might be relevant to our investigation. We had some lively debates about what might be actual evidence and what was just a red herring (or simple window dressing).
