About this deal

We love the Dave Pigeon books. They make us laugh so much. One time, the author and illustrator came to our school and we acted out a story. My favourite bit was doing the drawing and meeting the author because she was kind and funny. In 2023, World Book Day took place on Thursday 2 March and the emphasis was on making it YOUR World Book Day. Since it was first celebrated in the UK and Ireland over 25 years ago, the day has grown to become an essential calendar fixture for schools, settings and communities. It provides a fantastic opportunity to focus on reading for pleasure, supporting children's autonomy in book choice, and embedding a habit of reading that brings a wide range of benefits. Oct 2023 Our Connecting Stories literacy project is transforming reading and writing in disadvantaged communities View all Our report shows how World Book Day welcomes children into the world of books and reading in two ways: by helping all children become book owners, many for the first time, and by supporting a variety of activities and experiences essential for building life-long readers.

Some of the funniest books around are children's books, so you're in for a treat with these favourites below. Be careful, though - there's a danger of actual tears and serious stomach-hurt from doubling-over with laughter. Don't say we didn't warn you!Aided by Skipper (typing the story as it happens), Dave also aims to defeat his nemesis Mean Cat - even if it means changing his epic plans, here and there. Our Premier League Takeover Footy & Booky Quiz ran for a third consecutive year, and was hosted by top sports presenter Kelly Somers, along with Football School authors Alex Bellos and Ben Lyttleton. The quiz was aimed at pupils aged 8 to 12, and featured two rounds of questions (one football-themed, one reading-themed). You can still access all the footy fun by watching the quiz recording. Another hilarious combination of engaging plot, silly jokes and wonderful illustrations from the Dave Pigeon team, which means that this sequel is just as good as the original. This book is absolutely ridiculous, in the funniest way. The Gigglers are such a brilliant creation, and the way they punish grown ups for telling off children is genius. Prepare yourself for a lot of sniggering! 4. Iguana Boy by James Bishop and Rikin Parekh

In the Who Let The Gods out series, Maz Evans cleverly makes us laugh and cry in equal measure – something that takes great skill - and has resulted in her building a huge following of devoted fans.
