This book is exactly the kind of book I would've loved when I was eight or nine. It had that unique whimsy that can only be captured in certain middle grade stories. This was very cute. Age range I would say is 7-11. It's fun and I thought the ending very clever. I liked that the romance was very light. Pretty much nonexistent. Appropriate for this age group.

Can she find a way to undo the witch’s spell – or will she be frogged forever? I vacillated between 3 and 4 stars for several days since finishing the book. The writing is worthy of 5 stars, but there were aspects of the story which I loved and certain themes that I did not, including the ending. However, it did inspire a terrific discussion with my reading buddy, Marialyce. This was a difficult story to read. So much death, racism, tragedy and loneliness. Yet what I was left with was the power of sisterhood, of self-love, of believing in God-given talents, of understanding and the of amazing healing powers of community. I loved the depictions of a city and a culture I am an outsider to, but can appreciate and celebrate with the author. I felt like I was there with these sisters as they endured hardship after hardship and persevered with grit and determination. This is a pretty loose retelling of The Frog Prince. There’s really nothing in the way of threads from the original story, other than a person being turned into a frog, and even that is flipped on its head. But I didn’t mind. It was just a fun take on the story and never really took itself seriously. The audiobook is narrated by Karen Murray and Adenrele Ojo. Two narrators give more believability to the voicing of the characters and with the constant shifting between timelines, it gives clearer distinction between the main character's voices.One should be able to say of a princess "She was as good as she was beautiful," according to "The Art of Being a Princess" (third revised edition), which the almost-thirteen-year-old Prin… More...
