The reign of House Targaryen begins: House of the Dragon, the prequel to Game of Thrones, is here.Based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” the series, which is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, tells the story of House Targaryen. Ryan Condal, Miguel Sapochnik, Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen), and more speak to the time jump in the third episode, Viserys and Rhaenyra's mental states during the hunt, and Daemon's fight at the Stepstones. The House of the Dragon is a HBO show on the HBO Max streaming service. It is based on some of the events from George RR Martin's Game of Thrones universe, specifically his companion novel Fire and Blood. It's separate from the A Song of Ice and Fire novel series, which is the basis for the original series. Last week, I binged seasons 1-7 of GoT so those episodes are still very fresh in my mind and I am unaffected by rose tinted nostalgia.

Nymeria ruled the river city of Ny Sar, but as the Valyrians grew in power, she escaped with a fleet of 10,000 ships (give or take). Her first stop was Abulu in the Summer Isles, but when over 100 ships tried to return home and were lost at sea, Nymeria realised something had to be done. You’ve seen all 10 episodes of House of the Dragon Season 1 on HBO and HBO Max. After a bit of a slow (and annoying due to the time jumps) start, it certainly ended with a bang. This is another series to add to your DVD collection. The golden-haired family are House of The Dragon's focus, but if you were paying close attention during the season premiere, you might have spotted a tease for another spin-off. She eventually settled her fleet at Dorne in the south of Westeros and married Lord Mors Martell. To ensure she wouldn't lose her followers again, she burned all her ships and trapped her people on Dorne. Ryan Condal, director Clare Kilner, Rhys Ifans (Otto Hightower), Emily Carey (Alicent Hightower) and more dive into Rhaenyra and Laenor's marriage arrangement, and where Alicent's allegiances lie in Episode 5.

There is not that long to wait for the release, at all. The House of the Dragon Season 1 DVD will come out on Tuesday, Dec. 20. This is much earlier than expected, but the release date makes a lot of sense. This is perfect timing for Christmas gift ideas, and it fits around the time Game of Thrones was often released on DVD and Blu-ray.

Fire reigns in House of the Dragon as the first Game of Thrones spin-off has finally hit the airwaves. While HBO cancelled the Naomi Watts-led The Long Night before it even aired, the latest series is a little closet to the main Thrones timeline — some 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen. Fire and Blood is instead set up as a history book on the Game of Thrones Universe. It specifically focuses on the 300-year rule of the Targaryen Kings, with a large portion dedicated to the history of the great Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. The big question has always been when it would arrive on DVD and Blu-ray. HBO isn’t consistent with the way it releases its content, with some shows taking just a few months and others taking almost a year to go from airing on the network to DVD and Blu-ray. We did expect House of the Dragon to take around four months, but it turns out that is not going to be the case. Even the concept itself, however, is intriguing. Cast and crew, including Emma D’Arcy (Rhaenyra) and Matt Smith (Daemon), examine how Rhaenyra’s lies are starting to catch up with her, and the slow unraveling of Daemon’s marriage while living in Pentos. Through the marriage of Myriah Martell to King Daeron II, it means the Targaryens are actually descendants of Nymeria. Much like how House of the Dragon has been exploring Dany's complicated family tree, 10,000 Ships can do the same as a prequel to the prequel.
