This toothbrush can be paired with the Oral-B app, which gives you a few extra features. First, you can use the app to change the colour of the LED ring, which is handy if you’ve got multiple people in the house with the same brush handle. You can also override the default two-minute timer, setting your own preferred brushing time. Both cases do the job. But the 9900 Prestige is sleeker and a more practical option for a regular traveller. This is based on the results of an independent study by Cochrane. It suggests that there is evidence that Oral-B is more effective than Sonicare.Both are designed to be a bit of a do it all head, reducing the need for different styles of heads for different modes. They remove plaque effectively, promote healthier gums and help whiten teeth. This is more aggressively marketed with Sonicare. You don’t need others, but you do have some choice if you so desire. The iO9 is configured with 30 second pacing. The Prestige and iO10 are set with 20 second pacing. This is a subtle, but notable difference between the models.

The Prestige does have a pressure sensor, but this is around the bottom edge of the handle. It lights up purple when the sensor is activated rather than red. On both brushes, this alert goes away when the pressure is reduced. If you open up the Sonicare app on your phone you actually get the precise percentage (%) shown on the screen. For example 47%. The Orla-B app does this too. The pacer is actually by default set to two minutes, however, the brush consistently features past this moment. It doesn’t instantly turn itself off. You are able to alter the brushing time inside the app. Pressure Sensor Like the Oral-B iO Series 9, the Sonicare 9900 Prestige contains a pressure sensor, and a light in the bottom of the brush handle that illuminates if you're overdoing it, but we found the Sonicare much less sensitive to changes in pressure. You had to press really quite hard before the brush illuminated and vibrated as a warning. There's also no alert if you're not pressing hard enough.Each cleaning mode differs somewhat in the level of electricity from the motor which they work with to attain outcomes that are different. With the iO, although the default set time is 2 minutes, you determine just how long you wish to clean for. Dentists recommend replacing your brush head every 3 months or sooner if it becomes worn for an optimal clean. What this means is you will only know which cleaning mode is set on the Prestige by going via the app. Whereas the display on the iO will have this labelled. It is slimmer and far more stylish, having been wrapped in vegan leather. It has a little strap built in to hold onto the case.
