Morph Weapon: His CAD Shido's unique ability, (and the second of two things that set him apart) Type Shift, lets Rei switch between entirely different types of CADs mid-battle.

To make things even worse, one of the Fey, the Forgotten Queen, is raising an army to declare war against the Summer and Winter courts. Leading the army is the Iron Prince, Kierran himself, who has betrayed his own family. What? Why? In Cradle Lindon is surrounded by dedicated people that are incredibly talented and throw themselves into their training, but his will and drive goes to another level (and also his Iron body helps him train more too). In Iron Prince all of Rei's peers volunteered for a career that has an 80% chance of leading to fighting super high tech space robots because they wanted to be in the 20%... and the way they get into the 20% is to practice the awesome magic-tech fighting sport that they love, and playing this sport makes even them stronger and better far more than any normal human in a neat and addictive progression system, and they just can't be bothered? Why is the school letting them sabotage themselves like this? Even if it was such dystopian setting that the military didn't care about the death rate of the 80%, wouldn't the military still want the 80% that didn't make the cut to be stronger? The third book of The Iron Fey series begins with Meghan and Ash, now exiled forever from the Nevernever. Trapped in the human world, Meghan learns of the tragic incident that made her real father disappear in her childhood. Soon she decides to master the art of sword fighting, for she had the fate of all the fae resting on her shoulders.

It was amazing! Watching the main cast grow and overcome their own fears and anxieties, while pushing themselves to be stronger and better than they were, was simply great. Not many books focus that much on the character development, rather they let the story and intrigue carry poor character design. Essentially, one of the main character's friends starts pursuing a relationship with the antagonist even after the guy has repeatedly assaulted the main character. The big issue for me was the fight descriptions! Any fight with a main character: great! But why all the tournament fights with random people? Can't Catch Up: He realizes he's this when it comes to Rei. He's jealous, but it doesn't affect him too much.

Julie Kagawa’s writing doesn’t disappoint! Iron Fey is told in first-person narratives, mostly of Meghan, and the writing is elaborate enough to paint a vivid picture in the reader’s mind. There are plenty of action scenes and those are described well too. The fastest class of CAD, its distinguishing feature is that it has two weapons available, used one in each hand. If he was just into the person he's into bc theyre attractive, well, the book makes it clear that almost everyone with CAD is attractive and hed probably have some options. Morph Weapon: A possibility. A-types change more than other CADs, and are also more likely to develop Arsenal Shift.

Honestly, the people in power in this novel spend most of it holding idiot balls, because if any of them had an ounce of intelligence they would have taken the main character and had him practice his ass off from the very beginning. People keep asking me for series that are "like Cradle" and I'm like "Eeeehhhh...a lot of the stuff I enjoy isn't reallylike Cradle, and the books that arelike Cradle I often don't enjoy very much." Butch Lesbian: Short cropped hair, action girl, and is implied to be dating the far more feminine Maddie. When Ethan’s nephew Kierran suddenly goes missing one day, he must abandon his normal life and find Kierran; who may just do be on the brink of doing something incredulous in the name of love. However, Meghan fiercely believes that the Iron Fey are responsible for the savage murder, but their presence isn’t believed by any of the fae.

The romance subplot only seems iffy if you ignore the hints (or whatever u want to call it) about that characters family. We don't know exactly who/what the issue is but it might be cowardice on a parents part that ties to Rei, so hed have a reason to despise him, or maybe the family member died trying to save orphans, something like that.

Asking me for my opinion is like dangling your bloody hand over a shark. I have way closer friends whose books I didn't recommend here because I didn't like their story enough. Shadow’s Legacy is a prelude to The Iron Fey: Call of the Forgotten. This novella pictures the splendid wedding of Meghan’s brother, Ethan Chase. Now, I think the dialogue as a wholein this book is actually pretty strong. Characters come across as relatable but professional, motivated and educated, and convey their emotions clearly and believably. TLDR: Overall I liked it a lot, good characters, interesting mechanics, interesting setting. It's only one book, but it's a really long one, longer than the first three Cradle books put together. The story isn't even close to over, but it doesn't end on a cliffhanger either. On the other hand the setting makes some of the tropes (like the scorned MC whose obvious value is unappreciated) seem out of place, I also think that taking some more space for world building to flesh out the setting a bit more would have been beneficial. Aside from these characters, in Call of the Forgotten, Kierran was a totally messed up person and I desperately wanted him to make the right choices. I won’t reveal to you if he did make them or not due to spoiler concerns, but suffice it to say that he was a dynamic character, and I loved reading about him.

I'll say that I didn't mind the love thing with the protagonist's best friend too much (certainly not as much as I worried I would after reading the review).Weak, but Skilled: At first. He starts off extremely weak, with all but one of his non-Growth specs at F0, or equivalent to a normal human, and by the time he starts at Galens he's still much weaker than any other student. And yet, he has such a high level of combat skill and intelligence he's able to compete with people a full tier or more above his effective stats. As the book progresses, this becomes more and more downplayed, and by the end, he's on par with other high-level first-years. An S-ranked SCT and combat veteran who retires from active duty to take on the job of Chief Combat Instructor at Galens. Badass Teacher: She’s an S-rank fighter and a beloved ex-pro. Every one of her students has a ton of respect for her. This is a sci-fi setting, and whata setting. The authors had to have put in a truly staggering amount of work into making this world feel lived-in and complete.
