About this deal

De schrijfstijl blijft wel echt fantastisch, dus als Jane weer een nieuw boek uitbrengt, ga ik die gewoon weer enthousiast lezen! Just going to put it out there straight away that I didn't really like this book much. I have read a previous novel from this author and quite enjoyed it, but I wasn't a fan of this one. I found it a bit hard to swallow that Joni was on her high horse about Ant lying when she herself had used pictures of her sister on her online profile, then followed (stalked...) Ant to force a meeting in person, at which point she used a fake name and had to change her phone number so Ant didn't put two and two together. I mean... really? Ant was 100% not a good person, but Joni wasn't exactly honest herself. I kept reading because I was mildly interested to see how it would all turn out, but I can't honestly say I enjoyed it. There were some parts I appreciated, like when Joni forms a connection with the other women that Ant is seeing. I whipped through Just Got Real by Jane Fallon in a single sunlounger session and howled with laughter . . . A tautly plotted story of betrayal and revenge, it's threaded with authentic characters and heartwarming friendship -- Clare Macintosh * Good Housekeeping *

I finally finished this BELTER of a read from Jane Fallon...It is FABULOUS - with such warmth and humour, and the usual dose of the dish that is best served cold. Just Got Real is the perfect summer read.' CLAIRE ALLAN Three middle-aged women try online dating and are conned by a guy who is dating all of them at the same time. The women unite and seek revenge. Her snappy, clever fiction . . . seems to slip down like a glass of nicely chilled white wine. Just Got Real - her 12th book - makes no exception . . . Fallon has a nose for distilling the zeitgeist and we are in The Tinder Swindler territory here * Sunday Telegraph * No, really. All three central characters married up and got rich that way. No clever, ambitious women here. Just a bunch of bored housewives who got dumped or widowed and who didn’t have any kind of personality other than their men and their men’s money because none of them had lives until their swindler. A deliciously compelling story of romance and revenge. Just Got Real is intelligent, funny, and sharply observed. Be prepared to read in one sitting!" - Lucy Clarke There are literally two things that are going to happen to all of us: we’re going to get older every single day and we’re going to die. And so we shouldn’t be treating it like it’s something to be covered up," says Fallon Just Got Real is described as a ‘revenge rom com’, and that truly is an apt description. It has more revenge than romance but plenty of humour throughout. There are two main themes that Fallon explores which are middle aged dating, which for some reason, at my ripe 28 years, I’ve always loved reading about, and she also explores friendship through the dynamics of Joni, Saffy and Mary.

Jane is known as the revenge queen, but I really think the dialogue queen is more fitting, because the dialogue is truly masterful in this book. Jane's skillful use of razor sharp dialogue really brings every character to life, and makes the scenes so vivid. The story is perfectly paced, and you are guided effortlessly through the chapters. Her snappy, clever fiction . . . seems to slip down like a glass of nicely chilled white wine. Just Got Real - her 12th book - makes no exception . . . Fallon has a nose for distilling the zeitgeist and we are in The Tinder Swindler territory here Sunday Telegraph Your writing makes the world a brighter place, [Jane Fallon]. Just Got Real is an absolute joy * JOANNA CANNON * Her best yet! Ingenious and entertaining as ever but this book has a lot of WARMTH and HEART'' MARIAN KEYESI whipped through Just Got Real by Jane Fallon in a single sunlounger session and howled with laughter . . . A tautly plotted story of betrayal and revenge, it's threaded with authentic characters and heartwarming friendship Clare Macintosh, Good Housekeeping Joni never thought she would try online dating. She's so nervous that she posts fake photos - but when she starts talking to Ant, who's desperate to meet her, she doesn't dare come clean. Instead, Joni finds a way to meet Ant without revealing her true identity. It's perfect, it works, and she's happy - until a few months in, Joni discovers she wasn't the only one being deceitful: on Ant's phone are intimate messages between him and two other women. Just Got Real is a story of four vividly-drawn women and one horribly believable man, a novel about friendship and treachery that contains what must be the killer twist of the year. Totally brilliant.' TONY PARSONS This is the great dating app novel, red in tooth and claw, full of secret lives and lies, the story of what we will do to find love - and how far we will go when that longing is cruelly betrayed. Ingenious. Her eye for detail, compressed emotion and the absurdity that lurks beneath what people say to each other, is unerring. One of our very finest comic novelists Tortoise Media

Most liked being seen as real people, but others complained that teachers would never behave that badly, especially the smoking. That had come from me visiting my old school in Slough to remember what it was like. One of my favourite teachers was still there, now in her 60s, and still climbing up on the roof to have a sneaky cigarette at break time. She said: “You won’t tell anyone, will you?” I went: “No, no.” But I thought: “That’s going straight in the show.” Raquel Cassidy, played Susan Jane Elizabeth Mary Fallon (born 9 December 1960) [1] is an English author and television producer. I hated Joni at first. Firstly because of the need to catfish, and then when the catfish becomes the conned, the need to keep sleeping with him to mine for more information. I couldn’t help but wonder if the genders were reversed, how sleazy a read it would be. In 2011, Foursome was nominated for the Melissa Nathan Award for Romantic Comedy Fiction and in 2018, Faking Friends was nominated in the popular fiction category of the National Book Awards.
