About this deal

The Pure Evoke 2 was the first of three DAB radios I bought (one for home, one for the car and one for personal use). I bought if specifically to plug into my Hi Fi amp and use it as a tuner. We found this radio particularly successful with BBC Radio 3 on digital, the uncompressed sound coming across cleanly and pleasantly, while the high-frequency 'warbling' that tends to characterise DAB sound through true hi-fi equipment is much less noticeable when played through a table radio. Radio 4 also did well, as did some lighter-textured varieties of popular music broadcast on Radio 2.

There's also a dedicated input for an iPod or other MP3 player. The more eco-minded among you will also be pleased to learn it's part of Pure's EcoPlus range. The most significant include the addition of high-quality tweeter units – taking the Evoke's speaker system two-way – plus Pure's digital end-to-end audio subsystem, Clearsound. The thing is is the warranty runs from when I originally bought the first unit and for the second unit to only last 5 mins is ridiculous - literally. In design terms it doesn't reinvent the wheel, but with solid build, good OLED display and revamped ‘Clearsound' amp technology, it offers a clear evolution in sonic performance. But quite frankly the audio on that, on D.A.B. sounded hollow and muffled . This set was returned right away. There's no doubt in our mind that adding the tweeters has improved the sound quality significantly. Single drive units are all very well (after all, some highly regarded speakers use that approach) but their dispersion is often relatively poor, making the sound particularly variable as one moves around the room. The Pure Evoke Home comes with a flip-up screen. (Image credit: TechRadar) Pure Evoke Home: price and release date Although it does include a CD player, the Evoke Home is mostly about streaming. No surprises there, but the way it executes it all is sometimes underwhelming. Its pop-up screen hosts shortcuts to a bunch of apps; DAB Radio, FM Radio, Internet Radio, Spotify, Podcasts, Bluetooth, CD and AUX. Four of those require the Evoke Home to be attached to a Wi-Fi network. r u sure your not experiencing sound drop outs? I did for the first week or two have this problem. switch the osd to show the power level received. The Evoke Home is the most expensive model in the range. (Image credit: TechRadar) Pure Evoke Home: design When it said "we recommend" only alkaline I thought that that was because non-alk batteries wouldn't last as long - not that they'd kill the radio. weird.I also like the Evoke 2 because it is mains and battery powered so I can easily move it around the house without moving lots of wires with it. The DAB sound quality is fantastic, I tend to listen to some stations that are only available on Medium Wave and the sound quality with DAB is perfect, no distortion even at full volume and this radio is really loud! Even when compared to the FM band also provided DAB is noticeably clearer and of course comes without the FM 'hiss'. I use it in the kitchen and have a good olde boogy when cooking a roast for the misses n kids, never liked cooking but now its more fun!!!

This Radio is superb! the Roberts doesn't come near it, I'm quite sad about that as I have always liked their analogue sets. I found it did this when it was stormy and very overcast, the level would drop below 50 even down to 20 odd on occassions. Since then its never happened, levels now always above 90% (they may have boostered it a bit) and we now have more channels. I live in the stix. Applicable models: Chronos 2, Contour 100Di, Elan 2, Evoke 1S, Evoke 2S, Highway, One Classic, One Classic Series 2, One Elite, One Elite Series 2, One Mi, One Mi Series 2, Siesta, Siesta Mi, Siesta Mi Series 2 The Evoke Home has a quoted 100W of power from its dual 20mm soft dome tweeters and two 3.5-inch woofers, which are situated at either end of the chassis. I'm happy to say the audio on the Evoke is far superior on D.A.B., with lots of volume, you can even crank it up full with no distortion, this could not be said of the Goodmans. The radio looks a little old fashioned, but is nicely made. The Evoke 2S's improved sound quality is down to more than just the new tweeters, however. Pure's Clearsound suffix describes its digital end-to-end audio subsystem, which uses high-quality class D amplifiers and digital audio shaping technology to provide clear dynamics with low power consumption to suit the times. I also like the fact that there is a headphone output on the radio so that I can listen with these at night. I like the fact that it has 6 presets for both DAB and FM so I can store my favourite stations on it. The power cuts out when using mains or batteries - it switches on and off a couple of times and then will not work at all - completely dead.

You can turn the volume right up without distortion, the tone can easily be adjusted as each channel does perform a bit differently, the overall sound quality and style of the radio are superb! There is an optical output and you can attach an external aerial which is a great feature.Overall I have to say that I am very happy with my Pure Evoke 2. I had considered buying an Evoke 1 but the thing that put me off was they are only mains powered and I wanted a portable radio that was truly portable so I decided to wait for the Evoke 2. In this case, there is quite good treble in most directions and speech intelligibility is definitely better than we found with earlier Evoke models. There's also some good life and verve in music.
